Bulk film needs to be in the freezer: I'm not wrong am I?

Yes
So I've jumped feet first into bulk film and home loading 35mm cassettes. I've done my first batch and have no problems working into a blacked-out bedroom to get film into the daylight loader, onto spools and so on.

I'm presuming that the bulk film reel ought to go into freezer storage just like any other length of film and, as the home freezer is a working environment where space is at a premium, it needs to come out of the daylight loader, have the end re-taped, go back in a dark bag and back into the lightproff box whence it came. I am right aren't I?

That wasn't the real question however, this is:

Okay this is slightly more faff and I suppose it causes me to ask about the merits of freezer storage as opposed to low ambient room temperature: when does it become worthwhile?

Just stick the whole thing in the fridge if there's more space there. Freezer is probably a bit overkill, especially if you need to take the reel out of the loader every time. In fact, room temperature is probably fine if the film is in date and going to be used up by the expiry date.

Agreed. I used to live in South Africa where it is a lot warmer than here, and just kept unused film in the fridge. So did the dealers. It was fine.

Fridge? Taking up precious space alongside lettuce and tomatoes and stuff? I'd rather enquire of the prospects of extramarital... no I wouldn't actually:bang: But I'm better off in the freezer space-wise but not by much.

As above really.

This roll of film is in date until March 2013 and even allowing for our gloomy miserable old winters I'm likely to use most, if not all of it by then. Your sig suggests that you might be going back to SA in which case I envy you what I imagine to be a much sunnier climate.

You mean you don't have your own dedicated film fridge ????

Time to step up to the plate son

:D

Hmm. Negotiating floorspace. Fridge eh? I could use this for several purposes. :naughty:
I think I need power to the shed.

Well when I say "dedicated film".....obviously that includes beer......how else are we to balance the atmospheric moisture content...:)

Ah well, I don't do alcohol at all so thoughts of a wine cooler/beer cellar have to pass me by.

On the other hand I have a modest need for a chilling environment for fresh meat still in "body shape" so something the size of a freestanding fizzy drinks chiller would allow room for ahem modest supplies of fillum.

I've got a small camp fridge in the garage with 2 cases for film in it.
Tbh, if beer was in there, I doubt if I could be arsed to fanny about going out in the cold to open the garage to get it, it does have surplus pop in it though.

Its all right shooting film but its not long before it starts to take over, one thing leads to another, an all that......for instance, who could guess a significant other would complain about a few rolls of film in the fridge, I mean...its not like its a pint of maggots for fishing bait or anything..

Yip. Hopefully in January. It'll be summer...................and the winters are pretty good too!
