dont know if this has been brought up before , but has anyone ever thought about bulk buying, lets say 10 people want cameras another 10 lens's ect.
we get alist together send it to say kerso, warehouse express ect and see what the best prices they can do for this size order. if a good dicount we order and everyone is happy let me know your thoughts.

Hmmm! I think I can see where youre coming from with this but I cant really see how it would work.

Do you mean like one person collect the funds for one order of several items?
What if something was technically wrong with a lens from one batch, who would sort it out, the person who paid, or the person who ordered?

Also, if all the goods have to be sent to differing addresses, I cant see how it would be in a suppliers favour to make a discount as they'd probably be getting the business anyway.
Jmo of course... and I have my scatty head on today so probably havent explained my opinions too well. :)

no what I was thinking is lets just say 10 people want cameras chances are these would come from 5-6 different outlets. someone collects all the details gets intouch with a certain dealer, if they agree to a dicount everyone pays seperate on a given day and then the items are sent, I dont think it would be fair for one person to be responsible for collecting monies and sorting delivery.
we do something simaliar at our shop if we get a coach party coming up they get a certain discount on that day

We do "bulk buying" on another forum. One guy (or gal, but it's a car forum ;)) takes all the orders, everyone pays him, items are delivered to him and then he distributes them all. Obviously there is an element of trust involved, but it does work.

The ordering person negotiates the discount based on number of items he has got orders for.

Bulk buying

A lot of car forums do that, usually it's called "A Group Buy". You can save quite a bit of money in some cases.

It might be worth trying, but I wonder whether you'd need more than 10 buyers.

Recently I've been shopping around on bulk purchase discounts for lenses and the kind of deal I was offered was 3% off plus free postage. That was for buying 35 lenses. That's saving me about £1400, or £40 per lens, which seems worth having.

If you don't get as good a discount, watch out for postage charges. Whoever buys the 10 lenses or 10 cameras or whatever is going to have to post them on to the other 9 people. That's going to cost say £9 each (Royal Mail special delivery) and will eat into your discount.

Plus, as somebody else mentioned, trust is a huge issue. I don't mind buying from shops on the internet because if anything goes horribly wrong I know my credit card company will refund me. If I buy from you, I don't have that protection at all....

Group buys don't have to have one person collecting the money etc, that only works for small value items. I'm on a few forums where a discount is agreed with a shop etc for 10 people buying for example. The names are passed onto the shop and each person contacts the shop to pay. Once all ten have given payment details the items ship. Works well and no risk of your money.
