Budget M43 kit choices

Lightroom Analytics will do this as well, and you can specify time periods https://www.lightroomdashboard.com/app#/load

Cool, didn't know about this. That would mean being organized though :D As in, having kept all your catalogue info

[edit] Just as I thought, I seem to have managed to delete a lot of my old catalogues for LR5, as it's only showing my Fuji stats. I did find my old LR4 cat though, which is much more complete, and reminded me that I once had an X10 :D completely forgot I had that, also an RX100

It more or less confirms though, between the 2, that I do indeed shoot lower ISO and 2.8 is where I'm mostly at.

After much torturing myself by changing my mind every 5 minutes, and watching a zillion videos on each camera, I have decided to go for the Panasonic G80 [used]

I really love the looks of the Olympus, but the G80 has a few extras that I think might be handy down the line. Also I missed out on an Em5 mkii that had dropped to £450 which I thought was a bargain, because I spent too much time being indecisive! oh well.

Reasons for the Panasonic G80:
  • The articulated screen - My daughters love making their own little comedy sketches, short movies and pretend Vlogs, and they often sweet talk me into loaning them my cameras to record. I think it'll be fun for them to see themselves in action, and the 4K video will be cool to boot.
  • The mic input, planning on dabbling a little with better sound quality for videos
  • The better grip - My X-T1 is an ideal size, I do use a battery grip often, but even without I find it pretty comfortable. While I hated the [lack of] grip on the Xpro1 [which is gone as part trade towards this]. If I got the Oly I'd have to have gotten a grip extra.
  • Weather sealing
  • Though I miss out on an extra lens for the moment I think there's great bang for buck in this camera.
Thanks for all the suggestions anyway, and who knows, if I really like the M43 performance I may just add a little Oly at a later date :)

Welcome to the M43 Keith. (Also known as the De Mairan's Nebula in Orion)

really looking forward to trying it. I've been tempting to try the system for years. Got a very nice deal on a 25 1.7 too

50mm EFL leaves me cold, always has done.

Looking forward to seeing some images Keith.

It'll be pretty much the same as my 35 on Fuji, which is where I liked to be mostly. I'll probably grab a cheap zoom too, and at some point I fancy the Oly 45 1.8. I will also be trying out some M42 lenses, see how that stabilization handles the likes of an old 200mm F4 prime :)

Where did you get the deal on the 25 1.7? I wish I bought one when I bought my G80 new as they had an offer on to get it for £99 but I passed on it thinking I would never use it.....absolute rookie mistake!

It's an Irish store, not sure how it would work out with delivery to UK, it was €9 on top delivery within Ireland. Mine is due to arrive here today: They state delivery to UK is 2 working days, can't see what the cost is though.

A very reputable but often very expensive Camera store.

Too late to the party but would have suggested looking at a used Pany G6.......body for £200 or less........then spend the saved money on some good lenses. The only issue I have with the G6 and I guess it would be the same as all current Pany cameras is the accidental pressing of the buttons on the back. Don't understand why they don't use a lock button for those.....use your left thumb to push the 'lock' button while using your right thumb to select the buttons you need. Can't count the number of times I accidentally set the white balance. Can't fault image quality and great view finder. Does all I need.

IBIS was the main reason I wanted to try M43 though, otherwise I'd just have kept the xpro1 I've traded in. That camera had lovely IQ, but it was slow, had no tilt screen and I much prefer central evf. These things planted the seed, I have looked at all sorts, just wanted to give something new [to me] a go. I am never tied to any make or model, I could change my mind again in a few weeks but that's part of the fun.

Right.......in body v's lens stabilisation......is there that much difference? All other features, the G6 has I think.

There is a big difference for me, as I will be using some non OIS lenses, including some old manual focus lenses. The IBIS in the newer cameras works with those for both photo and video. I'm sure the G6 is a fine camera, don't get me wrong. And if your lenses are OIS, then great, but non of the lenses I'm looking at have OIS, just like the 25mm prime I posted above - which has arrived well before the body.
