Hi to all,
thinking of going here 21st September, never been to one before, need some info
best ticket to buy and where on track
can you get decent shots of cars on track
do you get access to grid/ pit lane
any tips/info appreciated
cheers

It will be packed to bursting point! Usual inside of Druids (if its open - they closed it for DTM) Paddock Hill Bend etc.,

Clearways TV flap will be in use as BTCC is televised.

Unless you're a VIP or media you won't get into the pits.

However for club meets, most circuits are pretty much empty - just people come out in force for BTCC and superbikes.

Best place to buy a ticket is off the Motorvision website, they send out the tickets 1st class so you can guarantee them turning up.
Yes, you can get some decent shots, will post some examples in a minute.
You usually get to walk along the pit lane, they sometimes have a certain time usually lunch time, I have a feeling it was free before but it depends on the event, gets very busy though.
If you want photos, avoid the grandstands. Depending on how busy it is you can usually walk round to various positions, some require shooting through a fence.
Out of interest, what size lens are you using?

Pitlane walkabout is free - there's also loads of places to take photos with a bit of imagination, it's probably worth going on the Saturday, less crowds, and it'll be mainly practice and qualifying, leaving you free to enjoy the racing on Sunday. It should be good, all the titles are to be decided bar the Renault Clios.

Quick examples, not the best, with a 200mm lens the best place to go would be Surtees or Inside of Druids.

Hope this helps.

thanks for that, so do i just buy general admission ticket? then can i wander round once inside?

Yeh, general admission will get you access to all around the track except grandstands, then just go to wherever you please.

You may also be able to get a good spot at Clearways. There is low fencing where the GP loop joins the indy circuit. There is usually a bit of bumping and shoving going on around here so you may well get some good action shots. Also the grass banking at Paddock Hill if you manage to get a good spot you can shoot between the wire on top of the fencing as the cars navigate the bend.
The support paddock is always free and open for you to wander around too. Best thing is get there as early as possible, gates open at 7:00, and have a wander around and pick your spots. As said it will be busy and there will be plenty of people there taking photos. My recommendation would be to take a small tent with you and pitch it at one of the spots, I'm usually inside Druids, Then if you struggle for room you'll at least have one decent spot saved.

Yes it will be on the TV, but i have never ever seen them using that slot for it, yes its used at some smaller tv events with 'roaming tv crews' but most big events like BSB, WTCC, BTCC build a scaffold futher down to get a better view of the chicane, so i wouldnt rule that spot out. Even if thats not available the fence is easy enough to shoot throw, although you need a tad longer then 200mm, if you have a 1.4x tc then take it, if not if you can get one, the 70-200mm 2.8 takes it very well, and will be required to get any decent shots though the fences at Brands

Isn't this round of BTCC on the GP circuit? In which case there's a huge amount of opportunities out the back. Much more so than some of the Indy corners already mentioned,

BTCC hasnt ran the GP circuit for a few years, i havent ever seen them on it so that atleast 3 years, looking at the Brands Hatch website it normally says, but for that one event it just says Brands Hatch, with no indictation of which format. Would be very nice if it is, but there isnt normally enough noisy weekends for the BTCC.

If thats the case wonder what losing out? as the WSB, and WTCC who where doubtfull after poor numbers and the death at WSS seem to be on. Would be nice to see the BTCC back out there ***.
