O have had a trawl through TP but am amazed that I can't find anything about this.

I got an message when trying to get onto my flickr account this morning which reads:

Dear BT Yahoo user,

BT has or will be emailing you about moving your BT Yahoo email to BT Mail. Once that move has been made you’ll no longer be able to log in to Flickr using your existing BT Yahoo email address and password.

How to continue using Flickr:

To keep your existing Flickr ID and all your pictures, you must move your Flickr account to an alternative Yahoo ID. This alternative Yahoo ID cannot use your btinternet, btopenworld or talk21 email address.

You can change your login ID now, here

If you do not change your login ID, you won’t be able to sign in to your Flickr account once your BT Yahoo Mail is moved to BT Mail. If you have any questions or need additional support, please visit our help center

Thanks,

The Yahoo Partnership Team

Note: When you complete the above actions, you'll be transferred from Flickr Pro to Flickr free. If you wish to upgrade at any time, you can do this via the Flickr website. Flickr subscription upload limits and subscription levels have recently changed and now offer 1 TB of free storage for every user. Please take the time to review these changes so you can make the choice that's right for you.

I have had a look round the net and it seems to be true that BT is dropping Yahoo therefore no free PRO account for BT YAHOO customers.

Nuts!

Well i have always had pretty spot on service from BT.

I've signed in this morning and no messages from them

I have just got the same message across the top of the page.
Not sure what to do now, whether I should create a Yahoo ID, or just use Flickr to view my images. I certainly don't wish to pay a subscription, but I suppose that some of my images may be wiped from the site if I am over my "new" limit.

No one knew about it because no ones had a Yahoo email account since the 90s ;)

Flickr free is 1TB, how many pictures do you have??

David

Got this last night :( bit bummed at loosing stats if I'm honest and would be happy to pay to keep that service, but it doesn't appear that the new paid service offers that facility anyway :(

I've just sorted this out myself after seeing this thread... Given I had so little traffic anyway, the stats aren't really a loss to me, so aside from ad's I dont know I'll notice any difference.
I can see how it'd be a pain for those that use it a lot, though.

I only joined Flickr a couple of weeks ago (free membership, not pro) and always put off doing so because I have never liked Yahoo - They were always sending uninvited emails etc so I trashed that email account.

I dislike BT even more as I can no longer watch this F1 season on TV without a BT account and I'm happy with my own provider/server. The BBC hasn't helped this situation either - What do we pay TV licences for!?

Am I right in thinking that an existing free Flickr account won't be effected?

It will have no effect on you at all

Btw, the ads are so small that I didn't realise they were there! I only looked because someone here mentioned them.

The great thing about Flickr is that the EXIF info can be viewed and that the images can be viewed very large but the image display hierarchy is crap (non existent!).

As a hyperinterwebbynet image host I prefer Photobucket where you can organise albums. Creating Sets on Flickr still leaves an image on your Photostream and so I find myself deleting poor shots which are posted here on TP just for critique/feedback. Rather than screw up a thread on TP I then substitute the poor shot via Photobucket but there's then no EXIF except what I write.

Sorry, I'm probably wandering off topic.

EDIT:
Thanks for confirming, Matthew (MWHCVT) (y)

Not sure exactly what I'm missing here.

I'm getting no messages.

When I look at my account settings it says

Your Flickr account
You are signed in to Flickr via your Yahoo ID (xxxxxxxxx)
You have a Flickr Pro Account. It will renew on 14th April, 2014.
You are using 0.02 TB of Unlimited

If you add /stats to the URL of your photostream you will see your stats.

That only works now if you are still a pro member by renewing your subscription automatically or manually. If you let your pro account lapse then you loose your stats.

From flickr themselves - Stats are only available to pro account holders that had them enabled before 5/20/2013, at this time.

i pulled the plug on my pro-account a year ago when it all changed ,not noticed a blind bit of difference ,except no stats ,and thats no big deal ,got nearly 4000 pics on there and thats about 0.1percent of my 1TB

Flickr and Yahoo seem to have the most complicated way of doing anything. Ever.

My Story

I had a Flickr account that I opened years ago. Last year I changed my broadband provider to BT and one of the benefits was that I got a free pro Flickr account. Except that I couldn't just upgrade my existing account to pro, I had to set up a new one. So I set up a new Flickr account with my BT email address and just left the other account dormant. Today I got the message posted above when I tried to log into Flickr. So I looked at the options and this time I did have the option to merge my Flickr account with my Yahoo account. Except that my Yahoo email address is linked to my dormant Flickr account. So I just merge them anyway and then get an email from Flickr saying that I've now got a 'dangly' account (there words!) and that I need to do something about it. I take the option to just delete it (as It wasn't really used for anything anyway) but I just get stuck in a never ending loop on Flickr. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Why Flickr account have to linked to Yahoo accounts I don't know. Surely it makes sense that if you want to use Flickr all you should need is a Flickr account?

Sooooo, if you have a BT internet pro account, you wont be affected at all? or what?

If you have a free pro account because its registered to your BT email address, you need to transfer it you a yahoo account, as I read it if you don't you'll effectively get locked out of your account

Bummer!

So I now have to sign up for a Yahoo ID (assuming this is also an email address) which I'm never going to use other than signing in to Flickr with? Sounds annoying, especially as I use my gmail account to login to Flickr even though its linked to my BT email in order to get the free pro account.

BT are a bunch of Chunts full stop!
