Hi all,
so our electric tripped out at about 6-30 pm - BT smart hub still not working after power was reset at fuse board
It just keeps cycling through the re-boot process and never seems to get a connection
The light on the hub goes from green to orange to purple an blue( which is how it supposed to be) but never stops
Tried the obvious re-booting but to no avail !
Any ideas?
Thanks

Mine played up last week, rang BT spent 25 mins on phone - already had tried unplugging from mains etc. BT tested the line and said it was working properly. Just like yours it would be green, then blue then orange. At the end of the phone call all they said was oh we will send you an email giving information on getting better internet, to which I replied that's great as I still have no internet!!!
Anyway this was at 6pm. No internet all that night but next day when I got back from work it was working as normal.

If its of any help. I have had probs for months on and off. Finally worked out, mine starts playing up after a thunder storm. I phone BT, they take me through the same old stuff ( They have too), when I get to the end of there play time I ask for a refresh from there end, hey presto it works. I hate phoning them because its the same old same, telling me it my hub, I have to remind them they only set me one out a month ago and before that 4 months. They like to find something in your home to blaim. Keep complaining hopefully you will get a case management.

My son is on his 3rd Smarthub (HH6)

Kept failing after power outage.

I gave him my Nighthawk and modem all now very stable.

Suggested to a couple of his neighbour's to have a look at the Netgear range, a couple of them have had multiple failures.

As much as it pains me to say it, the latest hub shouldn't be that bad. If I remember rightly they're made by Huawei and are broadcom based.

Better than netgear tat, id never put that rubbish on my network (sorry).

Each to their own in the end. When I had my business I had Billion routers which were very good.

As it stands, if the Smarthub is working, srable and doing what it is meant to, aa is good. In a world of increasing 'need' for stable broadband whereby more people are home based for work and more connectivity eithi the home is developing (media serviice, control systems including security, heating etc), the 'free' router built down to a price, becomes the weakest link for the customer. BT are very good at ushing the onus of responsibility for the in home management of their sevice onto the customer, msde easier by the threat of the customer being charged c£100 for a home visit by an 'engineer' to sort things 'inside the home'.

The simple issue is that most times problems are simple. but for many, it is not.

I think the BT 'SmartHub' may not be too smart but for most it kust works, there will not be a super structure of a server with massive amounts of ripped media hanging off it thus mission criticality on a modem routee costing say £10 to the ISP becomes a major issue when it cannot deliver. More so when the kids cannot get their game console connecting quick enough or worse, struggle to get online to assist their studies.

So brand desire/loyalty/failure becomes a new dynamic at a time £blions are pumped into infrastructure and delivery is through the lowest cost switch.

In the meantime, how would you answer the question what is the best cable router or ADSL/VDSL modem router? I certainly do not know but this forum has a wealth of knowledge and experience. £400 or £40 the mind boggles. In passing the Nighthawk was a gift from someone who has to have the best of everything...... incl grabbing a 1Mb improvement on his broadband connection.

If you look around in here - https://community.bt.com/t5/Connected-Devices-Other/bd-p/OtherBB - you'll find it not uncommon.

I have been on there a good few times. When the SmartHub is working, for the most part it does it's job nicely. As it is an 11ac device it is useful to tweak it so it broadcasts the 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels separately, especially where wifi extenders are used. BT emailed me a .pdf file on how to do this and this worked fine and meant that the IPads auto signed in to the 5GHz channel and yhe older kit and printers used the 2.4GHz channel. Logging into the best channel was made easier and automatic.

All was fine at my don's house but while I was in Ireland thf failures started.

BT seem to be aware of a potential QC issue as there was a time you had to donate a kidney to get a replacement hub.

Anyway the Nighthawk unit seems stable enough for fast gaming (not something I do) so the grandchildren are happy.

I am about to move back into my house so will think about ISP at some point.
