As much as it pains me to say it, the latest hub shouldn't be that bad. If I remember rightly they're made by Huawei and are broadcom based.
Better than netgear tat, id never put that rubbish on my network (sorry).
Each to their own in the end. When I had my business I had Billion routers which were very good.
As it stands, if the Smarthub is working, srable and doing what it is meant to, aa is good. In a world of increasing 'need' for stable broadband whereby more people are home based for work and more connectivity eithi the home is developing (media serviice, control systems including security, heating etc), the 'free' router built down to a price, becomes the weakest link for the customer. BT are very good at ushing the onus of responsibility for the in home management of their sevice onto the customer, msde easier by the threat of the customer being charged c£100 for a home visit by an 'engineer' to sort things 'inside the home'.
The simple issue is that most times problems are simple. but for many, it is not.
I think the BT 'SmartHub' may not be too smart but for most it kust works, there will not be a super structure of a server with massive amounts of ripped media hanging off it thus mission criticality on a modem routee costing say £10 to the ISP becomes a major issue when it cannot deliver. More so when the kids cannot get their game console connecting quick enough or worse, struggle to get online to assist their studies.
So brand desire/loyalty/failure becomes a new dynamic at a time £blions are pumped into infrastructure and delivery is through the lowest cost switch.
In the meantime, how would you answer the question what is the best cable router or ADSL/VDSL modem router? I certainly do not know but this forum has a wealth of knowledge and experience. £400 or £40 the mind boggles. In passing the Nighthawk was a gift from someone who has to have the best of everything...... incl grabbing a 1Mb improvement on his broadband connection.
