I'm with Plusnet who were a BT reseller until a few years ago, when BT bought them out. I'm happy with my broadband and luckily Plusnet still provide their own support which has an excellent reputation.

No fibre here yet, the exchange is only on 21CN (ADSL2+, up to 24Mb/s):

After so many frustrating calls speaking to someone in India asking questions from a check sheet whenever I had a problem I moved from from BT to Plusnet and despite being wholly owned by BT I pay less for a much better service. My broadband immediately stabilised and I now have the pleasure of speaking to a Yorkshire call centre without waiting long for an answer instead of pulling my hair out "speaking" to an Asian call centre. They also have a good forum frequented by staff members who can sort out any problems for you.

the number of over complex deals out there is mind blowing
All i want is a value for money reliable high speed broad band that works with unlimited down loads and no fair usage policy throttling [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER]
I don't what any tv packages, I don't want complex call packages, I don't want to speak to any high pressure sales people with accents that are hard to understand and annoying and spend 30 minutes being bored to death listening to this sales crap.
I don't want complex discounted schemes that start off half price and then rocket up
What an epic task and I don't want free fooookin ring dings either lol, I don't want complex line rental deals either
I bet I end up with my fibre broad band being as slow as my current adsl and I'll spend the next 18 months arguing with a load of rs holes
I dont want to fill in any customer foookin surveys either
I don't want to pay for a service you sold me that doesn't work at the speed I am being charged for. It's not my fault
MR BT that the line you have wired to my house and you own is old and useless, so stop blaming it on me
it is being your line to your house sir that is being the problem sir and stop calling me fooookin Sir
£38 p/m month for 0.9 is a joke my mobile phone is faster

Thanks
Victor meldrew

Sounds like Plusnet might be your answer.

Now breath and relax Tony lol
Just checked out plusnet looks simple and straight forward I was up for it until you said it was owned by BT that put me right off
I'm sure given time BT will ruin their reputation

Tony, they are run as a completely separate company.

And you are not tied in to a contract.

I'm building up the strength and psyching my self up to call them and speak about a boring internet and line rental deal lol
I'd sooner clean my drains and septic tank again roflol
couldn't see an unlimited deal on their site

One of my customers moved to Plusnet from BT ... took over 2 weeks for plusnet to connect them after BT disconnected

That sounds like a Bt issue
2 weeks seems the norm for the transition from what I have read on the sites
he should not have lost his Bt service it's supposed to be a smooth change over
perhaps your mate cancelled with BT first
I'm dreading my upgrade which will no doubt result in no service for weeks and hours on the phone

Don't know what Zen Broadband prices are like these days, but I was with them for donkeys before I moved to Sky - I was playing on average a couple of quid more than the plusnet deals but getting a very stable product - I never had a breakdown in the time I was with them (circa 4yrs) and I knew they paid for additional bandwidth from BT at the time, to ensure better contention ratios for their customers, which meant decent speeds even at peak times.

Just another suggestion for an alternative to BT....

I really don't know the 'ins and outs' of the issue as he is a customer not a mate but he did tell me everything was arranged with Plusnet and date confirmed in writing well before.
I guess these things happen with large faceless companies from time to time - hope your transition is painless.

I'm still psyching my self up for the tedious phone call
don't think I can take any more boring sales info on broad band and phone deals at the min
Just having a tea break from paint stripping my 150 year old skirting boards which is slightly less tedious than speaking to a broad band service provider IMO lol

Nice to see another happy Plusnet user but I don't think it would suit Rebel's needs: whilst the 60GB/mnth fair usage policy is ample for my needs, he wants the full monty (unlimited & no FUP).

I'm with BT for the simple reason that living in the back of beyond, if something goes wrong they get an engineer to the exchange to sort itno matter if it's a weekend, their guys are paid to work the odd weekend so they are available, other ISPs won't poayout to get an engineer to sort it

They were the only ones who were truthful about the speeds I could get and didn't try and sell an unatainable. not had any problems so far

Well, I also live in the back of beyond, was with BT and I never found that experience to be the case, umpteen times my overhead line was ruptured by rubbing against branches, each time I ended up tearing my hair out explaining that I can see bare wires in the line but they would insist on me doing their stupid checks from their check sheet :bang:.

The final straw was when the cable was actually snapped altogether and lying across the road, trying to explain the exact fault to someone in Bangalore was like talking to a brick wall :bang:.............it took 3 weeks to get the message through to them, clear the branches and restore my line.

That is why I left BT.

strange that as they use all the bt wires
I recon I have a line fault but bt say I don't even the phone conversation is noisy at times
they want to charge me to come out and test it

Are you sure that's what they said? Normally they say if the fault is found to be with with customers side it will be chargeable.

If its noisey on the line then it's either a fault or there's interference or your filters are bust.

They tell me I have no fault when they do a line test I can book an engineer at 130, if the fault is with my equipment I have to pay
I have done all the basic usual tests, line still noisy if I plug the phone direct into the master socket
I have no extension sockets
the line is worse some days than others
They just keep telling me there is no fault when I ring
last time I told them I am just ringing them to complain because I was bored and lonely
after nearly 2 years I give up
think it will be easy just to move house

They always say that, we've got them out 100s of times for work and we've never gotten charged

They cannot do a full test 'down the line' - I have had numerous customers with issues which were 'ok' with 'BT Faults' but sorted by an engineer visit.

I got told by previous supplier that it was my router, filters, wiring etc, they flatly refused to do anything when I got cut off the broadband connection, so told them to stuff it and went to bt, explained the problem and guess what, we had, had a power outage which had taken out the village and when it came back on only half the bb was reconnected, had my suppliers had got onto them it would have been sorted.
Since then I've had one outtage and rang their helpline, they told me it was a a local problem that was being worked on and then the nice indian guy phoned me later to tell what progress they were making, so really can't fault that

Exactomundo. That or sometimes the magic line test just happens to fix the issue
