It looks like a friend of mine has managed to land me a pit/press pass for the BSB races on the 20th July courtesy of one of the teams.

While I'm not new to motorsport photography (although I am in a commercial sense) I've never been to OP before and could do with a bit of track side knowledge if anyone can help?

This is a big opportunity I realise as it's quite likely the team in question will be looking to me first to provide shots of their riders, so the last thing I want to do is fluff it up!

ANY help would be most gratefully received.

TIA

Nathan

Try walking the track, and i mean the whole track you'l soon see where to shoot from more or less every where can be a good shot, or just do what pretty much every other BSB accredited tog does this year, and hunt in the pack!

Thanks Russ.

Problem is I'll be at Farnborough the day before and probably not get to Oulton until later than I'd like to.

BTW, If I get to even half the quality of the pics in your gallery I'll be a very happy bunny indeed!

Thanks mate, i doubt i shall make this one, and i was limited to being a spectator too!.

The most common haunting places are Old Hall, Lodge, Wheeling up Dears Leap, Wheelie out of druids (with a media pass id cross the track as the angle is much better) then the thingy Chicane that i cant think off the the name of, and turn 2 can be good with media access with the lake behind, seen some corkers from Shells but thats a very under used corner. Us spectators get no access to.

Right first of all your a jammy sod for getting a press pass!! Right then some locations.

If you stand on the outside of Old hall you will get some great head on shots and some of the start of the race. Also you could pan and get a rear 3/4 quarter pan shot!!

If you stand just up from where it says knickerbrook you will get some great head on shots!!
On the outside of druids will produce some good results, especially at the exit.

If you go to lodge you will see there is a building there. This is a famous part of Oulton and will give the shot location if you get my drift. This cornor offers a few shots. Like I said it offers the building shot like this:

Also You can get some head on shots and last cornor action! Also if you postion yourself correctly you can get a chequred flag shot on the start/finish line which is just up from this cornor.

Knickerbrook is a multi shot cornor. You can get them braking into this section. Entering the first part/second part and also if you stand near clay hill, exiting this section. Hilltop will produce some wheelie shots as will the exit of druids and the top of clay hill!! I have also seen a flame shot from the inside of the first part of druids. Also Foulstons is a good area as ou can get many bikes in one shot!!

I hope this helps.

Fantastic, thanks for the info Matt. Will you be going yourself?

I'll keep researching this as much as I can and will hopefully be able to get there eariler than I thought.

Hi,

Lucky man getting the media pass! lol

For us normal folk who will be in the spectator area at Oulton - does the info given above still count, or are there any good places for us to get some nice shots too?

I was at Mallory last week, shots here:

These are all the places i can acheive with my 10 optical zoom compact :D

Hi there, I'll be using the 20D and Canon 100-400L. Probably at the 400 end most of the time!

In that case yes all the areas i mentioned except turn 2 will be available to you, at Druids you will be restricted to the inside of the track, and i wouldnt bother going there come race day, as theres normally 2-3 togs that will stand there all day, often chatting to each other and not actually taking many photo's!

The inside of Old Hall will also be a slighlty better shot for as theres no fence to worry about to panning shots, but again expect around 50000000000 media togs there getting in your way, as alot of the muppets this year have upsolutely no imagination.

Oh also add the Foulston Chichance to your list

Thanks for the info, especially about the pro's. They always seem to get up and walk in front of me just as I am about to press the shutter! lol

Hope you have a good day!
