I'm off to Brussels for a weekend in a few weeks, it's not a photo trip but will be taking my camera. Any recommendations for good places to go for photo ops and beer and chocolate for the other half?

Head to the Grand Place for the classic Brussels shots, then you can head off in many directions to capture a lot of street photography and more architecture.

Food / beer wise it pays to get off the beaten track if possible and get into some less tourist type places. I do recommend the steak / peppercorn sauce in a restaurant not far off the square called Vincents, it looks like a butchers from the outside but the food / atmosphere is first class.

If you have transport or a local get over to the university district as the bar and restaurants are top notch. Prices are still what they are but when the uni's are in term the place is always busy and always fun. There a place i play snooker at which is a stones throw from the main bar area there and it's nice and quiet before heading out for a later meal / drinking session.

Basically rule i found with Brussels is if the restaurant staff don't speak any or limited English and have no English menus it'll be top notch :).

Quite a few interesting old buildings, as Sharky has suggested. It is a long time since I have been there but the Atomium was worth a visit.

Oh and chocolate ideally get to the Neuhaus factory shop. If you're not picky about the box that the chocolates come in then this place is amazing plus you can eat as many samples as you want.

Always come out of there stuffed but it is a bit of a distance if you don't have transport.

Thanks folks, all good stuff
