Hi All

I am looking to go to Bruntingthorpe this coming Sunday for the cold war taxi run display, can anyone advise what sort of focal length you need and how close is the crown line to the runway?

I will be using my new 70D with 18-135mm but I will also have my Sigma 120-400mm in the car.

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks

Doug

Well when I last went (2012, eek where does time go!) you were almost close enough to touch them... Doubt it has changed! I was fine with a 70-200 although there were people using longer lenses. I want to go but unfortunately I'm working at the Duxford show.. Poor planning with the clash of dates!

Harry,

Thanks for the quick reply, I thought that might be the case, but I like to be prepared. I looked at going to Duxford as well, but this is something I have wanted to see for some time. My late father in law worked on Victors at Marham 57 squadron, and I never seen one move let alone fly, hence my reason for going.

Thanks again

Doug

The Yorkshire Air Museum is worth a visit if you can fit it in. They often fire up a lot of their aircraft. The ex RN FAA Buccaneer with folding wings is an impressive show as is the Victor.

That's on my to do list, but a bit of a drive from deepest Bedfordshire

Yep that's a long day trip, if your in the area Eden Camp is well worth a visit too for different reasons. It's an ex POW camp complete with barbed wire, Sentry towers, searchlights etc. each hut has a separate exhibition inside such as The Great Escape etc. although it's a visitor attraction it's well done and is not in the same genre as a play park etc. However, it is next to Flamingo Land !

Last time I went to North Yorkshire was a few years ago, but didn't get the time to either of them. When we next go I will make sure that both are visited. I will pass on Flamingo Land though!

Depends on what sort of pictures you want to take Doug.
Some prefer Harry's example, which is very nice. But others prefer something a bit more in your face,

Then 300-600mm ought to do the trick.

Positioning also helps, I haven't quite got that as I'd like it yet though!

Oh and Harry, sort that weather out for Saturday will you!

Can't beat the Victor... Menacing looking thing of evil :P Bernie tell me about it! You never know though! Might end up going to East Kirkby on Monday if the weather is poor at Duxford :( dying to try my new toy ;)

I'd like to go back and try some 'in yer face' stuff. I had no idea what I was doing when I last went - first time shooting anything moving!!!

I should be there tomorrow, I'll be hanging around the canbera mostly as my friend works on it :-D
