A friend of mine has been left the following by a relative but has no idea of it's worth.

I know the B's didn't work with a metered prism but are they still a good buy / camera to use?

He has the following:

bronica SQ-B 6x6 body
bronica SQ-B 120 film back
50mm f3.5 lens
80mm f 2.8 lens
150mm f4.0 lens
250mm f5.6 lens
bronica hand grip

I may make an offer if they're still worth having.

All are good condition with no fungus.

Absobloominlutely worth having! In fact, if you don't want it, I'll happily pay him £100 for the lot, and pay the postage too....;);):D

There is one on eBay at £210 with just the 80mm

Why would they not still be worth having? The SQ series is a professional medium format camera system that is capable of professional results.

If selling to a dealer, I would say that this kit is probably worth in the £300-£400 region depending on condition, as the price I got for an SQ-A kit with rarer lenses (e.g., 105mm f/3.5, 180mm f/4.5, etc.) and more accessories (e.g., several film backs; speed grip, etc.) was £500. This was about two years ago though, so maybe you could eek out a bit more now, as prices for other medium format equipment have moved northward.

In the grand scheme of medium format though, the lenses individually aren't particularly rare or valuable, but performance should be top notch (will likely outperform most photographers). I really rate the SQ-B (better than the SQ-Ai in my opinion and only just below the SQ-A) and I've never been disappointed by Bronica's lenses.

I've pretty much got the same outfit here in a bag alone and relatively unloved, but not for any performance reason. The 80mm should be a PS/B lens which means it won't have half stops, but optically identical to the PS lens supplied with the SQAi at the time. The rest will either be S or PS lenses, and I can almost shed a tear when I think of the £550 I paid for a less than mint 50mm back in the day.:crying: The film back may be slightly restrictive for use with other Bronica SQ bodies, but otherwise a fine and very useable kit .
