Bronica lens hood help

Hi everyone,

I have what I hope is a fairly simple question, but after a bit of googling, I still can't find a definitive answer, so I'm turning to you all for help.

I'm looking to buy a lens hood for my Bronica PS 80mm f/2.8, but the hoods I've seen for sale are described as Bronica S lens hoods. Will an S hood fit my PS lens?

And also, if it does fit, I've seen both an 80mm S hood and a 65-80mm S hood; is one better than the other?

The information below is incorrect - please ignore. I'll leave the nice picture of the Bronica S for a nice wallpaper for the thread.

The Bronica S lens hoods are for a completely different model of camera that Bronica produced in the 1960s, the rather handsome Bronica S:

This is not suitable for your PS lens.

You have two options. The first one is the more pukka hood - the proper, bayonet fitting one. This is probably the more expensive option, but it's faster and as intended for the lens. I couldn't find any UK stocked ones, but here is one from the US. It's a painful amount to pay for a piece of easily shaped metal/plastic, there you go!

Your other alternative is a generic hood that screws into a 67mm filter ring. These are cheaper, but have less guarantee of adequate hood coverage, as 67mm filter rings cover a wide variety of wide, normal and telephoto lenses - of both 35mm and medium format variety.

There is a Lens Hood S that does fit the Bronica SQ system and goes with their S series's lens. However these are virtually the same as the ones that fit their PS series.

If the OP is after some then keep an eye on the Ffordes website as they usually have them, look in this section ffordes Bronica SQ accessories bit

Thats where I have gone mine from :)

Thanks Freecom2 for taking the time to respond.

I know that there is a separate Bronica S camera model, but, unless I'm really misunderstanding, there also seems to be a Bronica Lens Hood S specifically for Bronica SQs. In fact, Ffordes have several of them listed under SQ accessories:

I've even seen an instruction manual for the Lens Hood S for the Bronica SQ:

This makes me think that the Lens Hood S fits SQ lenses, so I'm wondering if it fits my PS lens.

In short yes they will.
 
So there is, apologies. I tried to clarify this but rather unhelpfully, Bronica quite enjoyed using the letter S - between the S camera, SQ camera, S lenses, PS lenses - oh and let's not forget the venerable ETRS, GS-1... :bonk:

It's no worries at all; Bronica have made it very difficult to figure it all out, which, in part, led to my needing to ask for advice. Because they used similar letters and designations for these cameras, it makes it difficult to google around for the answers...

I'd almost say to leave your response as is, as it might help others who are confused.

I really don't know as I have an 80 & 50mm lens both of which take different hoods.
 
I have the 65-80mm S lens hood on my 80mm PS with no problems.

Many thanks for the offer, but I think I'd prefer to have a metal or plastic hood; I just feel they'd provide a bit more protection if the lens were to knock into something. Correct me if I'm wrong here though, as I've never used a rubber hood.

Also, I see that the Bronica hoods flare out into a square shape; would a circular hood like the rubber one be prone to vignetting or is it not long enough for the shape to have an effect in that regard?
