Broncolor Help

I have just been given a 3 head set by Broncolor, but my uncle couldnt find the manual, the control unit has what im assuming is a model number of 212 on it, and the head have no model numbers that i can see at all, after a quick google they look similar to the 304 flash heads, (baby blue in colour) but mine havent got the vent slots at the rear of the heads, can anybody point me in the right direction for infromation please.
 
wanna swop it for some easy to use, reliable and cheaper modifier fitting monoblocs? :D

Im missing one of the umbrella holders and where can i get replacment lamps from, dont think any have blown, but just good to know where to get some from.
 
2500w/s I'm not surprised they are bright. Do you own a light metre?
 
a bump for some help please, still not sure what the 3 coloure buttons do on the top (red, green, white), ive had a look but i cant find a manual on the net anywhere:'(

Where abouts are you? Maybe you could pop round to a dealer or a tp member that may be able to help
 
im in Taunton Somerset, i dont know of any dealers near me though.

You got Skype and a web cam? Maybe someone on here with Bron experience can help you that way?

Those units are very old and use a 'rim-lock' where the reflectors/speedrings have a raised 'lip' that you offer up to the head and just close the clamp. Broncolor now have two tags positioned at 180 degrees (and differing size IIRC) that bayonet in place. As a consequence you might find it very difficult to get anything. Balcar used the same type of fitting, but I've no idea of size/compatibility. Know anyone whose good with sheet metal?

Thanks for that info paul, so im going to have to measure the size of the lamp housing and get some sort of fitting made up to convert them into the newer broncolor type fitting then.

No, I think that would be more difficult, though quite possible, I was thinking of simply bolting a ring to a current brand of reflector. Similarly, for speedrings, just bolt a disc with a large hole in it to a speedring without a mount fitted. Do you have any reflectors/fittings that could be cannibalised, to allow the mount to be grafted on to a speedring?

Also I was wrong about Balcar using a similar fitting, they used an internal clamp – just asked someone who used to use that brand and felt they couldn’t be used.

It really depends how much time and effort (money) you are willing to put into a rather old unit – do you have more than one head, are they working well, how often are you likely to use them and so on. These are so old that Broncolor don’t even hold their details in the download archive!

Thanks for that Paul you sir are a star, may i ask what the title of the book is please, i know they are old, and yes ive tried to look for manuals and such like on the net all to no avail, ive got 3 heads, and yes they all work, im pretty sure i can make something to adapt the older fitting to the newer one though.

The book is from the early 80's and is very dated now. It was, in its day, part of a recommended series of "How to control & use..." books, but I suspect there are far better ones about today & loads of information/video clips on the web that almost negate the need for text books :'(

Ah ok thanks, i thought it was a book about broncolor products, and yes ive managed to find lots of ebooks on the subject :D

I would imagine a book solely based around the details/history of a single brand of studio flash might not be too interesting and certainly have only limited appeal :) Not the same for cameras though it would seem - I have a huge Hasselblad book which was invaluable when I was looking to get some secondhand kit. Having said that Broncolor at least do have an on-line archive of manuals covering Power Pack & Monolights, a practise which I wish more would follow. Of course this is where those 'enthusiasts' (is that a polite word for geek) come in, creating those wonderful websites dedicated to niche interests.

As for me, I've been using the same brand of studio flash (Multiblitz) for 35 years or so, but in all that time have only had 3 models. The oldest dating back to 1975 & the newest to 1981 - though that is soon to be rectified as I'm negotiating for a newer (though no longer in production) one.

Oh wow not seen ones like that in years. The first studio I worked at in '70's had a set and they were considered old then.

Thans for that Kevin, i will drop him an email, and yep i know they are old, but hey they were free, and the are from a highly regarded manufacturer, i know they havent got that same ammount of control as modern power packs, but the light and consistancy is the most important thing :)

If they work OK age doesn't matter.
I did get a belt off them, I had a Rolleiflex in one hand wired to the pack and touched the brolly on the light with the other. I can't tell you what I said but I think sex was involved.
