Hi everyone,
I managed to crack the LCD screen on my A200 today. The rest of the camera seems fine, just the screen is unusable. Who's the best people (price vs quality of repair vs time to get job done) to send the camera too to get repairs.

I'd hoped to have it for Christmas, but I'm a bit worried it wont be.

Any advice would be great!!

Alex

If it's anything like the Nikon ones then it's just a plastic screen over the actual LCD, making it a cheap and easy repair - the part for most Nikons is about £12...

The Plastic screen on top of the lcd shows no signs of cracks, however there are defiantly cracks within the LCD itself.

Sony turned around some work for me in 7 working days (A900), this was Sony UK in Pencoed. No idea if that is typical for them.

If it's the LCD itself you may well find that the repair costs as much as a new camera :shake:

I had never seen the point in those LCD protectors but now considering it.. is it worth it on my D40? How many people have them?

There is a company in the USA doing it for $145 so its probably at least the same in sterling then.

Is it covered on your household insurance?

Sadly it doesn't no. I saw someone else saying that sony were going to charge them £115. So i'm going to send it off to them and see what they say. If its going to cost more than £200 then I'll probably tell them not too bother. and I'll live with it and buy a new camera body I suppose. Unless I can find a replacement LCD screen and fit it myself :-p

There are a some sellers on Ebay that do replacement LCD screens for various cameras, might be worth a wee search/email.

They were part of the package with both my Nikon D70s and current D300. I've never had any reason to remove them.

Yeah I found a place that sells them for 75 euros and a handy video on how to do it yourself.
I think I will be buying a screen protector after this!

Get yourself a GGS protector after you've replaced it - these are excellent, and very cheap.

Managed to take apart the rear of the camera and remove and put in the original screen (just to see if I could do it). And it went fine. Should have a replacement screen on its way soon!

Good luck with it, i would be too nervous to do that myself!!
