Hi all. using my camera recently and tried switching to manual focus but it doesn't allow me to and just sticks in the auto position. Would i be able to get it fixed easily/ cheaply or would i just be better off buying a new boddy, or upgrading to a better one?

i know this may seem a bit over the top but i am in a place where i want to improve my photography skills but have the best equipment i can afford, if that makes sense?

Any help/ guidance would be great.
Thanks

No advice you can give me at all people? as i need to get my camera sorted asap

Why not just use autofocus?

Have you tried switching over without a lens attached incase the mechanism getting caught up?

Can you see the AF pin on the lens mount, is it bent or appear damaged in anyway?

Will probably end up cheaper buying a new body if it is properly broken, but if I were you I'd continue using it as is and save up for something else. I would think its at least £100 for Nikon to swap out the lens mount alone, then anything else they find on top before they even get to the AF motor and mechanism.

Hi Ryan

Following on from what Tom has said, have you tried another lens to see if that makes any difference ?

I presume this is your Nikon D50 that you are having a problem with ?

Hi, yeah it still doesn't work without or with a different lens. It just keeps going back to autofocus.

Yes, it is my camera.

And what camera, would you suggest/ reccomend if it would be more ideal to grab a cheaper better one. Bearing in mind it will be on a £350-£400 budget

I was thinking a nikon d500 perhaps?

Presume you mean d5100? Bare in mind your d50 has a focus motor in the camera, so you can use any lens, the d5100,d5200, d3100 and d3200 don't, so depending on which lenses you own, they may or may not autofocus. If your lenses are AF-S then you will be fine.

The d3100 and d5100 are both fantastic cameras and a big step up from the d50. I've owned a d50, a d3100 and also currently have a d5100 alongside my d700.

I can't fault either of them tbh.

No, i did mean the d5000, 12.3mp with video mode and vari-angle screen.
Oh right, okay. Currently i have a 18-55mm af-s lens that came with the camera and a tamron 70-300mm lens.

Okay, thank you for your advice and i'll see what is in my budget then if its cheaper/ more ideal in the longer run to invest in a better camera
