Ok, I am up for renwal for my BB in a few days, Have used BT since 1999, but looking at some of the new supposingly deals from BT but i am reluctant to renew with them, its a "better the devil you know" issue.
I think i need to be stronger and maybe try some where else. I had thought about Sky, but am interested in any feed back on your BB provider, connection, and what you get for your money.

You will get the usual posts coming up with sky and virgin pretty much at the top of the list and then various other providers after that.
Personally we are with Virginmedia and for £56 a month we get
Upto 30mb broadband
XL TV with a tivo box
Unlimited calls 24/7

Every year I phone up retentions and try to blag a deal from them or threaten to leave. To date it has worked every time.

:plus1: Me too

To the OP, what are your criteria in selecting a broadband provider? Are you interested in the quality of their service, being able to torrent multiple 1080p Blu-ray rips of films (sorry, I mean "unlimited downloads"), lowest possible price, bundling TV / phone / new kitchen sink?

If you just want a quality ISP, I can make some recommendations. If you want other stuff with your broadband, I can't.

I'm with Sky fibre and can say I'm pretty happy with it. Getting 35+Mb and had no outages.

If you go for Sky (or possibly Virgin) then go through a cashback website, you should get a hefty chunk back. Also don't know about Virgin, but if you have a mate on Sky you can 'reccommend a friend' and both get £75 M&S vouchers too!

Virgin do similar but its £50 of each bill.

Just gone through a similar experience myself......

For the last 4 years I've been with O2 broadband, couldn't fault them (apart from when I moved house but that was more to do with BT Open Reach) but last year they sold their BB provision to Sky.

I was determined not to go to Sky as I'd heard lots of bad stuff although that was probably from when they first started doing BB and didn't have the resources/infrastructure to do it properly.

Was thinking of going to Plusnet but the lack of an evening and weekend call option (Weekend only or Anytime available) put me off a little, also the fact you can only get unlimited download if you went for their top speed package which I really didn't need.

Then I went on to BT & TalkTalk's sites to look at TV, Phone and BB packages. By the time you add Sky Sport and Movies you're paying as much if not more than Sky, on top of that you also need a working TV aerial (I've got one on the roof, it was there when I moved in but I have nooooo idea if it works or not  )

Anyway, I called Sky on Monday evening to see what they could offer me....... As an O2 customer choosing to move to Sky early they offered me the following:

Free Fibre activation (£50)
Free Hub (£36)
Free monthly line rental for 12 months (£15.40 x 12)
Half Price Fibre BB (40up 40down) for 6 months £10pm (then £20pm)
Unlimited Calls £5pm

It was an offer I couldn't refuse so I've saved over £340!!!

One of the best bits is that Sky contracts are only 12 months long so I'll be renegotiating later in the year

Once everything's activated I can claim my free wifi booster and call the Sky TV people and see if I can get any reductions/bonuses on my TV package ;)

I'm hoping that Sky lives up to it's growing reputation as a decent BB provider though......

Our line rental and unlimited broadband is less than £22 a month. Which isn't bad.

And our supplier gives us an average cashback of around £35 a month - which is even better. :D

But every time I mention the British firm with by far the best customer service record, I get slagged off. So I won't.

We've just changed to John Lewis Broadband. Don't know if it's the best deal, but we get line rental, unlimited calls to UK landlines and more downloads than I could possibly use for £22 per month. Calls to mobiles do charge, but I think most operators do that. We pay a couple of £££ extra for caller display so that we can ignore the marketing calls. Think it's hung on the back of Plus Net.

Service Centre is in Sheffield so no problems understanding what they are saying and they are open 24 hours a day. Call Centre is actually very good, and will take as long as needed to get you sorted. They give the impression that they only deal with one caller at a time - unlike some sub continental setups!

We used to be with BT, but paid for Broadband from Waitrose separately. We combined the two together and monthly bill went down from something like £50 to £25.

Don't have the option of fibre round here: this seemed to be as good as we could get.

Ok.
Plenty to read through here.

I have used unlimited BB with BT for the past 3-4 yrs +, mainly because I have my two children? students in my household, it does work well, but as most of us I need to get the best deal for my £££s. BT are out to get my money, but they are getting as little as poss.,
For the past 12 mths i have had a decent discount, I will as always be trying for there best price and hope that my continued business with them would account for something, however I kinda doubt that as we are all numbers now a days.
Fibre optic would be ok if they could delivery it to my door, but then I suspect more out lay for me. Quite happy with my BB most of the time, but there are times when it fails miserably.

We have our broadband and phone line through a company called Zen. I've never been so impressed with customer service as much as with these people, they're fantastic. An IT geek friend first put me onto them, and we've not looked back. Very competitive pricing, superb service, very highly recommended.

I am in the process of changing my TalkTalk package to BB only as I never use my landline to call (except 0800 nos.) and I pay my line rental yearly for £126.

£10.50 pm plus £2.50 pm for unlimited BB I don't think is too bad. :D
