I just wanted to have a rant about our naff summer weather.
As a newbie to DSLR photography I am itching to go out and about taking photos.
All I want is clear sky to do some landscape shots and be able to wander near water looking for wildlife.
I've had one decent weekend since buying my 450D to be able to get out their and use it.
That weeked was mainly used with the camera in auto mode and now I have a better understanding of settings and manual mode, the goddamn weather just wont hold out :(

Plenty indoors to practice your art upon until the weather improves.

Agree though, it is rather depressing :(

It's raining here at the momemnt and soon I have to go collect the mother-in-law, (her broom is broke), can it get much worse? :shake::(

:agree:

It's getting seriously depressing :(

I think the British summer should be done under The Trade Descriptions Act!

I've got a wedding to 'tog in an hour, and it's just started to tip with rain. Pity they weren't planning to get married this morning at 8am - it was balzing sunshine then.

Same situation here bought myself a mountainbike a few weeks back with plans of getting out for a ride with my camera on my days off work and its done nowt but rain (on my days off) since i got it. Got 3 days off now and its lashing down bloody gutted. :(

It's not actually raining here at the moment, although it has a couple of times. It's getting me down... I had planned to go for a walk through town, maybe through the church and graveyard with the 450d and try out some things

Oh, go one, i'll join in... yep, peeing down here too!

To be honest, the weather was one of the top few reasons we decided to up sticks and move out here. It's not so much the bad weather - it's the unpredictability of it, almost impossible to plan ahead with any certainty :(.

I feel for you, but it is an opportunity to think about different subjects that might be suitable for you to learn your new skills on (trying to put a positive slant on it).

Don't let it get you down - for photography anyway ;)

Cheers,

Neil

[PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] to it, I`m going out with my camera this afternoon, peeing down or not, If I get wet then so be it. ............:D

Thanks Neil, but the weather is mucking up my other main hobby as well, Astronomy sucks with all this cloud around.

68lbs and frac. Ok, umbrellas at the ready ....

Couldn't agree more :( I was supposed to be going to Whipsnade Zoo today to get some nice wildlife shots. One look at the forecast last nice and that was that plan cancelled

We should have a "best wet photo from this afternoon" comp.........:D

And an Underwater forum ;)

which raises the question, how water resistant are dSLRs?

Its killing me.:'( Used the camera a couple of times in the last month, thats it. Im off to Cyprus next month so thats something to look forward to. And its certainly not raining that way.:woot:

That's my concern. I know from reading online the 450d has no weather sealing...

True, true........ but I am really sympathetic - honest;)

Moving abroad is getting more of an option on a monthly basis for me...........

Gear packed, flask made and sarnies done, later........

I feel for you all 'back home'...honest.

I have to suffer with clear blue skies and golden sandy beaches at the moment:

Seriously though...sometimes the cloud cover and storms can make for more interesting photography.

I'll remember the WD40 for when I return!

You walked backwards a long way to get that shot :)

hi guys, agree with you all regarding our rubbish weather, i also fly model helicopters so the weather plays havoc with both hobbies, at the moment its blowing hard and pouring down aaargh. Kevin

I was wondering how he got the raised footprints in the sand - that was clever.

Depends on the weather and how you use it. I had a 300D that I used for over two years in all weather taking sunday football photo's. In torrential weather it was used under a brolly. I had a bar towel to dry the worse off it, or once used it inside a plastic bag. I wouldn't stand in a rainstorm with it, but drizzle was ok.

Thanks byker

LOL.

It's a cliched shot I needed for a bookmark.

When I first moved to North Wales I think it rained every day for 120 days straight...well, it seemed like it anyway.

I think its the cold weather and rain that makes things worse. Tends to be drizzle too rather than a good storm and then a break in the weather.

Hope things improve for you all. ;)

Seems an even better idea now....the in-laws have just arrived...........

well ive got a nikon and everytime i go out with it the bloody sun keeps shining .

On the other side of the coin, it's also not much fun when it's 35 degrees C and burning bright sun!! Too hot to go anywhere in the car and if you do, all the animals and birds are hiding and all the flowers are wilting :bonk:
I don't think it's so much British weather (though I do understand you've not had a good summer, or even a summer so far) that's the problem, as weather in general! ;)
