British toursist will need to fill out ETIAS visas soon to access europe and be checked out if criminals

Great:)

Another benefit of Brexit:rolleyes:

well yes but you have to do it to go to the USA as well and have done for years
the fun thing is the visa includes a criminal records check so if they don't want you to visit they can simply refuse your visa
and you will be denied access to the entire schengen area

Well we may of had to get a ESTA to visit the US but then we were never in a political and economic union with them, were as we were with the EU and had Johnson and his loons negotiated a proper exit we probably wouldn't need to now. In 2019 the last year before covid hit the Brits made around 5 million holiday visits to the US in the same period they made 67 million to the EU, if they enforce the criminal convictions rule there's going to be a lot of unhappy people.

Well, not since 4th July 1776 anyway.

The new EU regulation applies to ALL countries outside of the EU or Schengen area. It is not aimed at Brits, although considering the way some of us behave when visiting their countries I wouldn't be surprised if they had. Maybe this will have the upside of making visiting Europe less embarrassing.

How often do holiday makers visit all of the countries of the EU in a single holiday? 67 million visits to 28 countries is just (less than) 2.4million each - or about half the number that visit the single country of the USA.

How often do holiday makers visit all 50 or even just half states in the US seeing as America is more than twice the size of the EU, that would equate to 100,000 or 200,000 per state. The numbers are not evenly divided either in the EU where Spain gets over 18 million alone compered to just over 1.5 million that visited Florida the most popular state for British tourists.

I agree with you on the way some behave when visiting other countries but I have long since stopped visiting the popular haunts in season preferring to see and experience the real culture way of life of a country.

£6 for 3 years if I read it correctly, hopefully for us it means >£1 a trip, not a lot of hassle for a holiday in the sun.

Your right, the cost is negligable, less than an ESTA but its the principle, it was something we had for free and gave it up, for what?

No not really any hassle for most, just another inconvenience of brexit.

That and the fact that we no longer have automatic right of entry into any EU country even with a ETIAS you can still be refused entry.

Will proper "Duty Free" be reintroduced at the airports etc.

But the USA is a single country so you can't compare the EU to the USA directly. To make your argument then you would have to consider all the different States, Landkreis, Cantons, etc., that go to make up the various countries of the EU as they are similar to the States of the USA in terms of status and devolved powers. But lets not continue this debate but agree to (almost) disagree :)

I completely agree about avoiding the holiday hotspots in Europe and getting immersed in the local culture. At least we can agree about something :)

Yes. Coming back from Greece a couple of days ago, I got a 10% discount for being "Extra Schengen".

Because enough of the country voted to leave the EU,

Or, not enough voted to stay?

IMO you can compere the US and the EU as they both have a similar system of government a federation of states, with a republican form of central government, the US with their federal and state governments and the EU with the European parliament and country parliaments, but we can agree to disagree.

Still cheaper per mile than the direct petrol equivalent (if it existed!)
