Just a heads up to anyone in the North West area that the British Musical Fireworks Championships 2010 are on the 1st-3rd Oct in Southport.

It is an annual event were there are fireworks displays to music. There are at least two displays over each of the three nights, though one of the nights, and I can't find out which at the moment, has three displays.

If you would to see some pics from some previous years you have a look in my Photobucket link at the bottom of the page.

I'll hopefully be going Friday and Saturday, weather permitting. ;)

There are very good views without having to pay btw, all my images are from outside the payment zone. ;) And there is not enough space to set up a tripod in the pay area anyway. ;)

If you want to try fireworks then this is the perfect opportunity. A lot of displays in a short time.

I'm hoping to go. That's interesting regarding where you set up as I was expecting to have to pay for the best vantage point.

Excellent pictures Jimmy Lemon.

I've had some similar in the past but the marina wasn't quite as calm. Nice variety too, something I tend not to have. :(

only managed variety as I was shooting with two cameras :p

Just bumping this up for anyone who didn't see it. ;)

Looks like the weather tomorrow could go either way, though the night looks clear if possibly windy. As with all weather predictions nowadays you can believe them closer to the time. Fingers crossed though. :)

I'll hopefully be there Friday and Saturday.

Well I went to Fridays displays and made the classic mistake, took the tripod without the head.

I have a small tripod that I got for taking on holiday, and forgot to swap the head over to the larger tripod.

So I attempted to lash the camera to a handrail, which wasn't a good idea. :bonk: Then I rested the camera on the ground against the tripod which led to slightly un-level images.

Anyway, after some levelling and cropping, here's what I got.

I'll try to go again and not make as many mistakes on Saturday. Though the rain is due around the time the fireworks display is due to start, so it'll be a last minute thing I think. ;)

Again, worth a visit if you're in the area.

Here's some from Saturday night. Remembered to take the tripod head this time. I was in the perfect place not to get wet as well so I stayed there the whole night. :) #10 is what the face explosion turns into if you catch it from beginning to end.

There were a few interesting fireworks this year, the face being one of them. The heart shaped explosions were good too, though I didn't get a good one of them #8.

When I read the first line of your post I thought you were a chap standing next to me on Saturday as he couldn't use his Gorillapod on the railing, tough he was from Southport. ;)

Well done for being so sharp being hand held Little John.
