I've noticed a few older model cameras being advertised as "new" by this crowd on eBay.

They claim to offer "New in UK + 3 year warranty.

Item location is said to be London, UK, but looking at their profile they are a US based business, which rather suggests they're selling grey imports.

Has anyone here had experience of them or their products - particularly if the warranty has to be used?

Couldn't find them on eBay but if they're trying to obfuscate their base of operations that'd be a red flag for me.

so they are called british deals but not based in britain ... seems honest to me :bang:

I've just started a dispute with a vendor on eBay. Bought some extenstion rings, one won't work, so contacted them to send it back and was told I'd have to send it to China:mad: even though It was from Gosport. Eventually they gave me an address to send it to in Portsmouth, a quick goggle flagged it up as a scam address used by lots of Chinese vendors, so they can say they never received it. As me old mum says " buy cheap, buy twice"

Chances are they are Chinese, maybe based in USA, drop shipping to the UK and forwarded to you. The sellers feedback is not terrible, some of the bad ones suggest goods may be seconds or demo stock?

I've had the same issue as Leroy, item sent from a UK address but had to be returned to China, eBay rules say (or did) that you have to return an item to the seller where they are based.

The Nikon listed in post 3 is about £699 in the UK, there's just no way you can save £230 off that price and it not be iffy (imo).

New York address on their eBay contact details:

I have a real dislike of companies who abuse the location on eBay. I always search 'items within the UK' but get a load of clearly HK or US stuff coming up. As a general rule, if it's going to take at least a week to arrive based on the estimated delivery, they aren't in the UK.

Probably cheaper to pop down to your local camera dealer in town and pay the premium rather than be ripped off.

Who is to blame?

Should be grey import. As long as paid via paypal and proper check after receiving the item, I am not very bothered.

You would be bothered if you got hit by a duty/VAT bill when the item was supposedly 'shipped from the UK'!

Not sure that eBay would help you very much in that instance as the duty is nothing to do with them.

Not sure that's it's worth the risk buying something as expensive as a camera from an eBay seller unless you are really sure about the seller being ok as proper grey market sellers like HDEW are trustworthy and based in the UK so you will get the manufacturers warranty too

I agree, why risk buying from a company where you don't know where you stand. Personally, if buying grey either use someone like HDEW who sell grey from within the UK or Panamoz where you know it is imported and know they will support their warranty
