Hi has anybody used this shop good bad any feedback appreciated

I bought my Sigma 12-24 from them - and returned it as the focus was all out! They swopped it and that was also out. I got a full refund including the postage, so I would rate them for that.

I bought my sigma 150-500 from them without any problems.

Same here, I have ordered a few things from them without any trouble, good customer service, no probs!

I bought a couple of small items off them. Found them to be a very good sevice.

Bought a Manfrotto tripod head + a few lens hoods from them
Very good customer service

Accurate delivery times too

Used them a few times with no problems. Quick delivery and usually good prices.

I ordered a tripod head that was listed as in stock.

They took the money, after a few days of my order sitting at a status of 'downloaded' I called them. took about 5 calls to get someone to pick up. Then they had to hunt around for the right guy. When I was eventually put on to him, all he said was they expected them in at the end of that week. I'm sure its illegal to take payment for something you don't have in stock. About 2 weeks later it turned up.

I won't be using them again!

Thank you all for your quick replies i decided not to go with them after seeing what they were going to charge for postage way to much and after seeing what jay12329 said i can't afford to wait that long

I was impressed by them when I got my Giotto tripod from there, until it needed to go back because a part failed. They took it, and said it'd be a week or two to be fixed by Giotto - that's fine I said. Agreed that when it came back they'd ring me to let me know, then stick it in the post. A week or two later, it came back and I was told it'd be in the post that day. 7-10 days later, no tripod head. Upon ringing them, they told me they'd forgotten to post it out. I told them not to bother, got in the car, picked it up and decided that was the last thing I'd buy from there....

never ordered anything big, but have ordered a number of accessories from them over the years. a few have been out of stock after I've placed the order but I received an email pretty quickly to tell me that and I was happy to wait. Everything has arrives in good time and well packaged. so  from me :)

I placed an order with them 2 weeks ago, called them monday last week, waiting for something to come in stock, I should get order by end of the week

Nothing arrived so phoned last friday, was told the filter holder had arrived that day and the filters were in stock, should get them in the post yesterday.

Nothing yesterday, was told by them the only thing from my order that they had in stock was a 62mm adapter, but I would get an email in the afternoon, no email arrived....

Called them today to cancel the order, got confirmation email within 30 seconds, if only their deliveries were so quick, won't use them again, ordered from elsewhere today and will get by courier tomorrow :)

By the way they only list a 5p per minute number on the website, no good if your on a mobile with inclusive minutes, their landline numbers are:

01179 140 089 and 01179 290 435

Ordered a compact from them this week. Arrived today by RMSD. No problems and no reason not to use them again. I live "offshore" and like the fact that they use RM rather than a courier. Only small gripe is that they don't give an email address for easy communication. I can't even tell them that I'm pleased!

Could have saved money if I'd waited for Kerso to give me a price but that's a different story :(

Any One know Doris Evans [mailto:doris_evans35@yahoo.com] "Veronica Mex" from Bistol Camera LTD? Who she is? I found her post from http://www.adpost.com/sg/cameras_optics/2543/

I doubt that an ad placed in Singapore using a Yahoo email address for contact is connected to the real Bristol Cameras in the UK:nono:

Actually, I'm quite sure it's illegal to take payment for anything until it has been dispatched, that is to say, no money should leave your account until then.

Yeah, I would have said so too but I cannot quickly find anything to back it up. Is it a credit card condition rather than consumer law? We need a lawyer! [OMG I never thought I would say that!]

I used them - and they took 2 weeks to deliver something that was 'in stock'. Don't always believe the stock status - however if you're not in a rush - they can sometimes have good prices.

Do you have a source for this as I'm not convinced that is correct? A number of big companies are breaking the law if it is.

As I understand it, taking money before dispatch is not illegal. However, best practice seems to suggest that monies should not be taken if the item is out of stock.

That's my understanding too - they're entitled to take the money straight away if they want, it's only convention to wait until dispatch since that's the better customer experience. I remember when ecommerce was still pretty new and lots of people would bill upfront but gradually more and more big retailers stopped and now it's what we expect.

It only becomes a problem if they don't dispatch the product!

I work for a mail order firm and we would never dream of taking payment of something that is not in stock/we cannot dispatch immediately

I work for possibly the biggest distance seller in the world (certainly the largest online retailer anyway!) and we only bill when the product is shipped - it's the best and fairest thing for the customer and ultimately that's how we design our policies and processes.

The trouble is, plenty of others don't
Let's just hope that the customers vote with their feet (and wallets) and buy from a retailer they trust.

I'm still waiting for my Crumpler Singapore Sling from them. They've taken the moeny but don't have the item. No one does. It's out of stock everywhere!

Dudes,
i'm not going to get that from Bistol, cos i do not know who she is(:: Veronica Mex)? and where she work for? Do she work at Bistol camera? why don't they use official e-mail? Yahoo can get everywhere n anyone else. Price for new D7000 was too cheap, un believable.....!

Anyone know?

I used them but wouldn't again, my item was supposed to be new but was obviously ex demo or shop display or returned item as it was very marked.

They took 2 weeks to dispatch a lens cap, won't be ordering from them again!

Fingers crossed they are ok, as I have just ordered my Crumpler Bannana Hammock off them.

I think the main reason why companies such as Amazon do not take payment until Dispatch is so its easier for them to cancel an order if it were mispriced or for whatever other reason.

If they then take your money and then realise it is a mispriced item after the sale of contract has been finalised someone has reasonable cause to take them to small claims to force them to honour the contract. These days its 50/50 who would win but most retailers could do without the hassle.

It's nowhere near 50/50 unfortunately, the point at which the contract is finalised is not a standard thing. Most people assume that it's when payment is taken but it can be set out in the terms and conditions to be at the point of dispatch (until then it's still an invitation to treat) so that they can avoid shipping items following an error.

Amazon are actually one of the few retailers who actually would (and do) always honour the price quoted on site at the time of purchase. They do this, and only take payment at dispatch, since they're very concerned with the customer experience and these actions are the best thing for the customer... So the customer trusts them, feels happy shopping on site, and comes back for more!
