Anyone had any dealings with Bristol Cameras? Had my new Ball Head arrive this morning but it's clarly been fitted to a tripod and is heavily marked :(

Sorry to hear that Paul

I ordered a compact camera from them a few years ago, it duly arrived but the box was tatty and the camera looked like it had been handled turning it on revealed a picture count of several hundred. When I eventually got through, they admitted it was an ex-display model but argued it was still new. I argued it wasn't!

They hadnt any more stock and I needed the camera for holiday, so they promised to send me a Sandisk 1gb memory card as an apology (about £35 at the time!) - when I got back from holiday they had sent me a 256mb cheapo card. I wasnt impressed. I am always tempted by their low prices but cant help but remember my one and only bad experience.

Hope you get sorted ok Paul.

I ordered a Canon focussing screen and a battery charger, as it turned out both were out of stock but I didn't received any communication letting me know and emails weren't answered. Both items eventually turned up, I wasn't in a rush and the prices were good so I wasn't particularly bothered.

In your situation though I wouldn't accept a used item if I had paid for new, unless I knew this was the case and it was discounted accordingly.

I would guess by looking at the head that it is ex showroom or someone has had it, tried it and didn't wan't it.

You live and learn I suppose.

Used to be one of the best in Bristol years ago but a bit grubby now, if it's not new though sold as new I would demand a refund or replacement.

Send it back. The reason they continue to do it an get away with it, is because no can ever be bothered to complain.
You have paid for a new item, you should recieve one.

Nothing annoys me more than shops that ship obviously used and damged items when you have paid full price for a new item.

If you bought a new car and its was dented and the tyres were bald and had 30k on the clock, would you just "live and learn"?

I agree with what your saying but as said it's just the hassle, will cost me £6 to send it back and then I will probably have to wait for a new one to be sent out. :shake:

What payment method did you use Paul? Both Paypal and Credit cards will protect you from traders like this...

Used them twice. First time, great! Camera arrived within a couple of days, good price etc.

Next time, phoned to check item was in stock and was assured it was, so orsered it, telling them it was needed within a week as I was off on holiday and wanted it for that. The Saturday before we went, still no sign. Phoned to check - Oh, yes, it's been sent out and should be with you tomorrow (a Sunday?!). Monday - still nothing so back on phone - Oh, no, not had them for a while... OK, cancel my order, I don't like being lied to. I'll never use them again, however good the price might seem.

Got a ballhead from them. Was in new condition with tags etc. Don't like the comments above though so doubt I'll use them again

Ordered a camera strap from them that the web site said was in stock. It subsequently took 2 weeks to arrive and they ignored my emails. Would never use again.

I suffered the "not in stock" but no communication from them to inform me so.
They did cancel the order while I was on the phone to check what the heck was going on.

Well they are deffinately of my places to buy from list.

Avoid, had similiar experience re no stock and lied to.

Reading this, I will not be using them. Perhaps it would help to make them aware of the reaction that their shoddy dealing with you has created.

Just cancelled an order due to unacceptable delays and poor comms from them. Will not be using them again.

I had no issues with them when I ordered a 2nd set of secureline twin links

15 quid cheaper than anyone else and delivery inside a week.

@Digitalfailure

I tried them as I was recomended them by a friend who's not had issues with his orders with them. Just seems they really suck at stock control and communication to customers.

Price was good on the grip I initially orderd (postage was high though)

Guess it's just a case of ordering over phone rather than online since they dont have a live stock check system.

Bought a lens off them a few years ago. They sent it to someone else by mistake. It showed up eventually about a week later. Not used them since.
