I have a friend who wants to move on from a P&S but a DSLR is beyond her budget and needs.

She is after a good quality bridge camera for mostly general photography but with the added flexibilty of the different modes.

Any suggestions gratefully received.
 
DSLR looking bridge camera, second hand, can be picked up at a fairly good price would be fujitsu s9600.

Not the newest camera, but it set me up well for my 7D I now use. Has a "proper" zoom on it, rather than one of these horrible digital ones.

Fairly rugged as well, mine has been literally everywhere with me, well above ground, to underwater (cased obviously) and below freezing, to high 30's. It never skipped a beat :) feels weighty and solid.

Have also used it's predecessor the s9500 which is identical bar a few small tweaks, also very good.

I also had a s9600, great cam but better was the s100fs, one of the few cameras i regretted getting rid of. Now of course, you have the HS series, both the HS10 and the HS20 go for about £200 on ebay, these both have the mechanical zoom and seem to get good reviews.
 
I am too considering getting a used S100FS for my bother in law with a budget of £150, is it still the best in this class for a used price? I have seen referbished HS20 for £199 but he only has £150.
 
Fuji do some good bridge cameras.
You can get them refurbished with one year warranty direct.
They usually have a number to choose from at any one time.
 
Should I go for the newer model or is the S100FS still a legend and will he still get alot of camera for mis money?
