Bridge Camera??

The wife has a Panasonic FZ1000mkii . Lots of improvements over the 1000,2000,2500 models .. I have played with it a few times and it’s even good on b.i.f lightning fast AF . Decent zoom range 400mm in RAW and you can double that up to 800mm in j.peg

I have been reading some reviews and one of the cons of this camera is purple fringing on images. Do you know if your wife has a problem with this??

Brilliant to know, thanks!

Now, just to decide between the 1000 ii and the 2000!:ROFLMAO:
Not just because I’m selling it, but I do suggest the FZ2000. The extra reach is useful and I prefer the lens (extra ring for manual focus, screen is better and (not that I ever used it!) video is better too! I’m selling as I’ve got tons of kit that is just sitting around and funds need to be freed up!

Another option is to make your own "bridge camera" by fitting a superzoom to a small body. I have two outfits like this...

Sony A65 with Tamron 16~300mm (24~450 equivalent)...

Camera Sony A65 on trivet in kitchen DSC01375.JPG

Nikon D600 (FF) with Tamron 28~300mm...

Camera Nikon D600 Tamron 28-300mm A65 DSC00155.JPG

Just looking at reviews and comparisons on here and both score very poorly for image quality.

Not poor for this type of camera. Have you found another with better image quality?

Yes I suppose they are just comparing it to a higher end camera/SLR.

No I haven't, think I will just have to buy one and try it for myself!

Big change of plan! My Nikon D7200 sold last night, (We decided to sell the body on it's own and the lenses nearer the time we will be needing the extra money to pay for our car), but unfortunately, it didn't make enough money to get the FZ1000 ii or 2000, or even the 1000 really as it only just made over £420 (And with lots of watchers and a VERY low shutter count as well!). :( Sooooo, I have decided on the FZ330 instead, as although it hasn't got a 1" sensor, I have read lots of reviews on it and it does seem to have pretty good image quality (Well as good as it can be for the sensor size and the small amount of money I have to spend), a very good zoom and decent video capabilities.

So, just watching a used one now for a good price and will hopefully be able to get this by the end of the week, all being well! :)

Have you looked through this thread?? Lot's of very good images and information.

For image quality it looks as though the Sony RX 10 walks off with first prize, so much so I'm sitting here wondering if my credit card can take another hit :naughty:

Yes it looks like a very good camera, but totally out of my price range unfortunately and I don't own a credit card either.

I wish I didn't, I have very little self restraint when it comes to high tech toys, in the time it took for you to reply I bought an RX 10 iv from e infinity, b****r o_O
Hope you enjoy it!! ;)

Ok, so now I'm thinking 'maybe' I'll get the FZ1000 instead (I can 'actually' afford this now after working out finances), only because of the bigger sensor. I do like the F2.8 throughout on the FZ330 and weather proofing though......

AAAAAAAAAAAGHHHH. I'm going to go mad if I don't make the decision and buy ONE soon!!!:runaway:

I'd forget the FZ330 if I were you :) Some of the features are great - massive zoom, f2.8 throughout and weather sealing. But I think you will be disappointed with the images after your D7200.

Similar to the OP, I often couldn't take all my DSLR gear with me and wanted something smallish with a big focal range that I could easily carry and was a lot better than a phone camera. I had a voucher for John Lewis and they had a sale on so I got the Lumix FZ200 (older version of the FZ330, I believe). It's a good little camera and I find the controls and usability rather good (my DSLR is a Canon 50D for reference).

But it does have its limitations - and they are pretty much all to do with the small 1/2.3" (6.17 x 4.55 mm) sensor - which the FZ330 also has, I believe. Basically, the FZ200 is a decent small sensor compact camera with a good big lens on the front - so it outperforms a "regular compact camera" on account of the lens but suffers the same as a regular compact on account of the small sensor, for example, when the light gets low, if you make a heavy crop on the image file, it has a relatively deep depth of focus (which might or might not be an issue).

If I had the spare cash, I would get an FZ1000/2000 etc. without hesitation just for the 1" sensor. From what I gather, they're quite a bit beefier than the FZ200/330 etc. and so wouldn't fit in some of my coat pockets like the FZ200 can.

I do use the FZ200 and I'm very happy with it but it's no substitute for the 50D. Saying that, the 50D gets left at home a lot because I rarely have the carrying capacity to take it out.

Hi,

Ok so had the FZ1000 for just over a week now and I can say, I am a little bit disappointed with the image quality, as compared to my Nikon, but it's still pretty good as long as you don't zoom in too much and I've found that if you do, the images take on a kind of artificial/painting type look. I've also had some bad/not very sharp photos while using Intelligent auto mode and so, started using full manual and Raw and then editing the photos in the camera (And on Picasa as that is all I have for editing photos and consequently didn't use Raw very often on my Nikon), which seems to give a little bit better image quality.

Anyway, I'm having a couple of problems with the video aspect of the camera. Firstly, my videos were fine, but when I uploaded them to my computer, only one played and the others played but with a totally black screen all the way through! Then I took some more videos and uploaded them and the same thing has happened, but then (As I didn't delete them off of my card), I went to look at them again on my camera screen and they had turned from videos to just one still frame of each video!??

Luckily none of the videos I have taken have been that important, otherwise I would have been gutted that I had 'lost' them!

Any ideas what I could be doing wrong??
