I read this on a photography assistants forum ...

Hi, I'm looking for a photographer/assistant photographer to take photos at my wedding on Sunday 17th May 2009 which will be held in central London. I'm looking for someone who has some photography experience, who can take decent photos and is well presented. You'll need to be confident enough to act as the main photographer at the wedding.

If you are interested please email me at creditcrunchbride -at hotmail.com and leave me your contact details and a link to view your portfolio.

Thanks

Amy

Now thats really extracting the urine dont you think ?
:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::bang::

I might take her up on the offer - that'll teach her!

Be funny as anything if somebody applied giving false details did the wedding and vanished into thin air, maybe people wouldn't be so quick to takes risks if that happend a few times. Wayne

Well she sounds really demanding, but doesn't actually say she want something for nothing (although the email address doesn't look promising).

I might send her an invoice.

There is a big difference between looking for a bargain & derving to get shafted & in this instance, it would be rough justice if someone did that swanseamale..

ranarama, she posted on a site, where assistants offer thier services free for experience with pro togs etc, so I dont think she is looking to pay !!

Oh right, OK. I might send her an invoice anyway to make the point that she can't (or shouldn't) get what she wants for nothing.

There may be a few young or up-and-coming wedding togs who would jump at a chance like this to gain experience or add to their portfolio

The situation could be mutually beneficial for both parties

that is true, but would it be appropriate to ask for a recent pic of the bridal party no point in trying to buid your portfolio if she is a minger!!!! or part of the adams family:woot:

Me neither. Everyone will be going into this with eyes wide open.....

Now I know that the website is actually for assistants offering to work for pros for free then it's not quite as bad as it looked at first. I do still think she sounds too demanding. It reads like a job description, which I suppose it is, but most of us get paid for jobs unless we do charity work, and this wedding isn't a charity.

Interesting point, would a young up-and-coming wedding tog's portfolio be judged on how attractive the subjects are?

I'm not being sarcastic here, just genuinely interested as people at weddings come in all sorts of shapes and sizes!

Without wanting to sound prejudiced in any way, good looking couples and interesting locations do help a portfolio. At least I think they do anyway.

EDIT - I wouldn't have the balls to ask a bride to send through a photo first though, even for a free shoot, as the experience of the day itself is probably worthwhile for someone that's not shot one before.

well when i started out doing the weddings I done any on offer but for a small price to build my portfolio, but looking back at it they are of no use to me know cause I cant use some of them for the fact a bride to be will see the "whole picture" this being how pritty the bride is........ I feel this is going to open up a whole can of worms:lol:

OK, so it's obviously just me that doesn't see the problem here
I don't see a problem - just as long as it's made clear that it won't be for free it sounds like a good opportunity for someone to gain some experience.

That's not prejudiced, that's a fact.

I don't see any problem in this ethier, it could be very beneficial for the right person.

I have to admit - it doesn't sound like shes interested in a mutually good deal. Maybe its the tone of her email but it sounds like she wants something for free but won't give alot back. It might just be the tone but I tend to read alot into that.

Sure do - and the sooner we actually have either (let alone both) I'll be much happier

my only thought is if you can't afford to get married don't!

It's weddings that can end up costing the earth. Getting married can be done for almost nothing if it's the marriage that's important.

Divorce however..............

my only thought is if you can't afford to get married don't!

Why though? If they truly want to get married, why should they have to spend lots of money on dress, cars, photography etcetera? Maybe they want to make that commitment and all the other stuff isn't that important.

well clearly i am in the minority for my line of thinking, personally i find it disguising that people spend £1000s of pounds on weddings. Yes i know you don't have to spend all that money but if its the marriage rather than the wedding thats important to people why do 2 out of 3 end in devoice?

I am in danger of taking this off topic but having an email address as credit crunch bride sounds to me like they are struggling, i don't know the reason and i don't really care all that much tbh what other people spend there money on but is she looking for a low cost wedding or spending money she doesn't have on something you don't need?

I'm not convinced Toothie.

There is a big difference between trying to do it on a budget/creditcrunch, and wanting 'something for nothing'.

If she was wanting to do it on a budget then she would have friends take photos with disposable cameras etc.

I'd do it at a discount if the bride is a supermodel and the wedding in a great location !

you guys are obviously a lot more clever than me!

you've somehow managed to suss out the brides whole personality and life story from a short paragraph.
I've heard of judging a book by its cover but you guys dont even have the ISBN number!

Am I the only one who's glad that philosphy doesn't apply to divorce? :D
As someone once said to me, don't get married unless you will have a succesful divorce!!

More seriously, if she cannot afford (guessed from from the email addy), and possibly is not over worried about photos then why not ask. Ok the email may not appeal to a lot of people and if I was a wedding tog I would be one of them, but they don't have to answer it.

And, ranarama wants to send an invoice to someone he's never done any work for. :p

I might send her an invoice.
