Have you seen the price of bread lately!?

I am tearing my non existent hair out, trying to find the right lens with the wife's permission:love: >>>>> but i can not, and up to now will not spend several hundred pounds on a lens :'(:'( never mind thousands.

Until i get past this mental block i keep going round and round in circles 1DMARK11 i wish i had ONE of YOUR B*lls:lol: nice knowing you :bonk:

Regards Mark.

Holy carp! Am I looking at the right lens?

Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM

£3,000 :puke:

Very quietly and carefully!!! How about sending her away for a day at a spa when you expect it to arrive so she does not see a huge box waiting for you? After all, if you are going to spend pennies on a lens and be on bread and water you may as well go the whole hog and keep her happy as well

It was a used 300mm 2.8 - Turned out it was already sold by the time I placed my order they just did not remove it from their site.

Ah well life goes on and the Missus gives as good as she gets lol :)

Now if you will excuse me the tears are to much (Just kidding) :D

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :)

£1495 for a Mint- copy - not the cheapest but it looked as new.

I would suggest very little bread as plain water will pass the object lodged in your r*ctum (long, grey and non-vibrating!) far easier without the lumps!

(Commiserations on missing out on the bargain - better luck next time.)

I feel you excitement but I also feel you pain too..... no advice only that you've made your bed and no doubt she will have you sleeping on the sofa soon ;)

A little advice from an expert in this field.......spend the time until it arrives using Google earth to pin-point where you want your ashes scattered....it's very calming.

What you buy today is history tomorrow. Not

i collected my one from kerso's sister on tuesday night. it's simply amazing in terms of sharpness and AF speed! i love it. price was good too!

I'm starting to feel this dilemma now, being recently married, even buying a tripod makes me think twice about what the wife would say.....

Great lens and well worth the time you are going to spend in the dog house

I have to say I dont envy any of you who have to dodge the wife to buy what you want. hope that never happens to me haha

Dodge the wife...??

I'm not married but if I was, I'd care more about the-

Gas bill
Electric bill
Council tax
TV Phone & Broadband bill
Water rates
Mortgage
Insurance (car, house, dog, personal)
Pension fund
Car expenses (tax, fuel)
Weekly flippin Fridaybigshop...

sod the wife

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :)

Keep your eyes open for another. It was obviously for a reason and there must be a better copy out there for you. It's a really impressive lens and partners the mk II very well.

:)

I am still alive - thankfully I didnt tell her anything so she is none the wiser. However I have decided to sell some goodies and just buy a new 300mm 2.8 IS from Kerso as its "only" another £1,000 *eek*

Nice knowing you guys - now if you will exuse me the patio needs to be dug up...

(And if she finds this thread its me own grave)

:help:

Just butter her up loads-breakfast in bed and do the dishes and the dinner and the garden oh and did i forget that means for the next 10 years. LOL

Or you could take her to eqypt or somewhere to get to use the new lens-but can you get a second mortgage right now lOL

Here's a suggestion. The lens comes in a nice hard case. Why not say that you've just bought a new protective case for your gear and show it to her. She'll never know there's a monster white lens inside.

CC will state otherwise £2500 for a case what is it diamond encrusted?

Can we have an update please. Are you still breathing?:p

I got mine from Kerso for £2,450 plus £20 p&p about a month ago. Absolutely brand spanking new and very sharp and AF is blisteringly fast, even on a 40D :woot:

Just to advise that Ian is on holiday until 19/08, just in case you don't hear from him....

yip, the lens is a complete machine! only problem now is i want the 500mm and 600mm to go along with it..... and an estate car to ship them around in!

:)

Planning on gathering enough cash for a new 300mm 2.8 IS over the next week by selling up some odds n sodds. Will email Kerso on his return as I have used him before many a time and for a price around £2475 posted thats as good as it gets I reckon.

Spoke to the wife tonight - told her the truth she chuckled and said that its no problem. Just means I got to keep on her good side but that is why I married her :)

This lens seems to made by magical pixies - everyone seems to give it 10 outta 10 :)

300mm 2.8 IS landed at 12:01 today.

First impressions are:

"Wow"

Thought it was kinda small then added the hood (Struggling to get the hood correctly on so will need to research that)

Going to hit the local boating pond with it and hopefully bag some ducks!!

I am in love - looks very nice with the 1D II N :)

We made a pact here about buying new gear.

It's my money and I can spend it how I like..................but.................As a small matter of respect I agreed to ask him each time I want to buy anything. The truth is that he agrees but then he feels good about allowing me to get what I want.

I want a 70-200mm f2.8 IS but in order to do that I've sold a 20D and will sell the 17-85mm EFS that went with it and a 70-200mm f2.8 Sigma (which I actually like a lot) so the total outlay for me should be about £300. I have to sell the other stuff before I can buy it though. Damn, knew there was a catch somewhere! :)

I've loved reading this one, thanks for the laughs guys.

I haven't heard from Ian and I emailed him before 19/08. I was asking about price for monitor callibrator.

Try sending him a private message here on Talk photography.

His username is Kerso - that is how I communicated with him.

That is how my bank balance was reduced ;)

I sent him a message this morning and got a reply within an hour. Maybe he missed it or email got lost?

His email addresses are 2kerso@gmail.com and/or kerso 1123@msn.com. I usually sent the message to one and cc to the other, just in case, especially if its urgent...

Murray, it is a lovely lens, really impressed with it, though it hasn't tracked any kingfishers in anger yet...the weekend beckons, so.........

The 300 2.8 has increased by £50 to £2,500 with Kerso, presumably because of the exchange rate decreases..

:)

Just returned from a trip out with the 300mm.

"Woah that is one serious lens he has" - It was like the parting of the red sea at times the way the masses moved when the saw the big white object in their midst.

Was a little funny at times - managed to bag some pics of the local talent at their request however I will not post her picture for fear of breaking the internet ;)

However I did manage to snatch one pic whilst Scotland bathed in the glorious sunshine (I can just reveal that it has clouded over again in the last few mins)

Is it just me or is this Russ Abbott wanting to smoke a Hamlet whilst riding a Jetski?
