Nice and simple, I'm off to American Speedfest in June, will a 100-400 lens be long enough for Brands Hatch.

it depends where about you are on the circuit,
from the inside of the hairpin I found my 150-500 (APSC) wouldn't zoom out enough to get a whole car in. Other times trying to get head - on views without crash netting in the way the 500mm end was somewhat short.
If you're able to get access to the paddock there should be opportunities for great shots with a normal kit zoom too.

Thanks guys.
I'll take the 70-200 and the 100-400, (I hadn't realised you could get to the inside of the circuit) My main concern was being so far away, it wouldn't be worth taking anything.

You may have to pay extra to get in the paddock, but the only American event I attended at Brands (when the Champ cars were supporting the BTCC) allowed closer contact than I'm used to.
At Brands the outer Paddock is usually accessible, but the inner paddock is typically restricted. The inside of the hairpin has pretty much always been available.
This is as much as I could get in from there at 150mm

If you'll have big pockets and/or easy access to your transport, I'd stick something wider somewhere just in case there's something interesting in the car park (there usually is at race meetings!)

The Speedfest is held on the Indy circuit rather than the full GP. You will be able to access the inside of the Druids Hairpin for panning shots around the top of the corner, and as they go down the hill, and if there are trees or shrubs you can pan through the trees. The outside now has quite a lot of fences, but from the top of Druids there is a photography window - but it may be occupied, otherwise you need to get the lens as close to the fence as you can.

At Clearways at the other end of the circuit, there is another photography window, but can't always use it.

You should be able to get access to the inner paddock by either the pedestrian tunnel or the car tunnel, but you probably shouldn't get access to the pit lane itself.

I would also say yes - the 100-400 will be fine at brands, even shooting through the fences. outside of Druids (if you get there early enough to get a spot close to the fence) being on the indi layout there are plenty of places to shoot from - you will have a blast ;-)
