We all know the risks in doing this, obviously this driver decided to attract attention instead!!

Also to cause an accident and if spotted by the boys in blue be awarded points on your license and a fine.
 
this was reported on the BBC this morning, The AA have it on their website (somewhere) the police will stop you and give you £60 fine and 3 points if there is more than 3" of snow on the roof of your vehicle or if they believe the volume of snow causes significant risk to other road users.


I suspect that there is more than 3" there :D
 
Well it will help traction. But i think i will stick with a couple of bags of cement in the boot.

No they wont, they will ask you to remove it but you wont get a £60 fine and 3 points
 
the fine and points is (unfortunately) a hoax..

although i suspect you could get done for not having a roadworthy car if youre covering indicators/tail/head lights..

its all to common around here today, people litterally just scrape the front screen :cuckoo:
 
Not saying this isnt stupid, if he can brake hard enough he will lose visibilty for a good 5 seconds or if it does go off the back he is endangering those behind him .........plank yes but not breaking any law
 
It looks parked to me,perhaps removing the snow to cover up the double yellow lines might have been more apt :thinking: :D

I am sure with such an extreme example there will be a few laws they could throw at this female driver in order to award a few points and a fine.

Potentially, they could do the driver for an insufficiently secured load if they wanted and could be bothered.

A couple of days ago, on one of the news reports about the snow, there was a jam sarnie with almost twice that depth of snow on its roof - but I suppose the roof bar would help keep that attached rather better than sod all but gravity.

unsafe load maybe isn't that like a 10 grand fine?
 
What a tube... all he'd have to do is find a quiet stretch of road and drop the anchor promptly to clear it, which would probably force it all off the car. Turn the wipers on and move off... seemples...
 
It is an offence not to clear your car of heavy snow.:)

Mind you, had cause to do a couple of junctions of the M25 at lunchtime today, there was some old chap in an ancient Proton hogging the middle lane [irritating in itself], with a couple of peep holes in the windscreen and a 4in round cleared bit in drivers side window and that was it! I wouldn't mind, this is nth London, we have had maybe 2 or 3 inches snow at most over last 3 days, and some freezing, but it took me less than 10 minutes to clear a car that had been sat on drive without moving for last 4 days and had thicker ice on screen than snow, so he had no excuse :bang:
 
Just to clarify, it was a female driver.

Sadly it won't even do that, as that is a front wheel drive car and with the extra weight over the back it will reduce traction and hamper efforts at steering.

:thinking: Would that be before or after they nick him for not wearing a seat belt :shrug:
 
I saw a woman in Bradford today, there was a clear arc on the windscreen which had been made by the wipers, she'd cleared most of the front windows but that was it.

6" of snow all over the rest of the car including the lights, brake lights and indicators.

Perhaps there should be an IQ test before a provisional licence is issued, if they fail a guy with a big red stamp marks their application form with

I drive trucks for a living & by god - I've seen so many of these idiots driving around.... 90% of them are in the outside lane of the motorway as well!!!

They get the famous "3 blends of the finest coffee beans" wave from me :p
 
It's not that hard to clear snow off a car. A normal broom does it nicely. If you get one with the softer bristles and you're careful then you don't scratch the paint either.

Police were hanging around in odd places today. Think they were out to have words with snow dorks.

I find nothing less interesting in policing than traffic matters, but you could have a fair stab at Driving a Vehicle in a Dangerous Condition:

There is no prescriptive list, as with most laws, and it would be a matter of fact for a court to decide. Given the response of most posters here, it would seem reasonable to believe that this offence would be made out.

It's an endorsable offence, so at least 3 points on her licence would result.
