I think someone else has posted a similar theme but I would like to re itterate the point.

Fed up of an x factor Christmas no 1, can I point all facebook users to this group:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2228594104&ref=ts

Basically people (including me) are trying to get Rage Against The Machines "Killing In The Name Of" to number one this week!!!!

:) :) :) People Power :) :) :) :)

(Rant now over)

People not wanting to be sheep telling other people to follow them to getting another song to No.1.
Oh the irony ;) :p

It's been tried many times I think, I certainly remember a Rick Astley movement recently, and it's always gazumped by the hoardes of teens itune'ing the latest X-Factor winner and Joe is going to have an army of screaming fans.

Great choice of track in 'Killing In The Name Of' though. I may have personally preffered 'Bombtrack':cool:

The irony indeed :) least its not the cowell sheep heard :)

Yeah bombtrack would have been my personal choice, but Rage in general are amazing!! :)

Why do you care so much about it, I cared what was no1 when I was 14 but I couldn't give a monkeys now, big business will always make big money, there have been manufactured groups since The Monkeys in the 60s, probably before that, why not just accept it and stop wasting your time trying to change it

Interesting that RATM are on Epic, a subsidiary of Sony Music and the X-Factor single is released by Syco, a subsidiary of Sony Music - so the labels win either way and driving both lots of sales could be good for them

lol quite a funny rant.

People care about different things. I care about real music. I dont care about politics or gardening, for example. Everyone is different and to me thats a good thing :)

Doesn't bother me to be honest, never has

But being a Geordie myself it will be nice to see Joe @ Christmas number 1, at least we have one Geordie who can sign now :D

I think it's more of a rebellion against manfactured flash in the pan, here today McDonalds tomorrow, product of massive marketing machine acts. As soon as Joe stops making money for Syco, he'll be dumped as fast as Leon Jackson (remember him?) It all gets terribly predictable and boring. There are no surprises any more.

Hmmmm 86000 members on the Facebook group, and 19 millions watchers of X-Factor last night. Can see how this one is going to end up!

Most of the people on the Facebook group won't even buy the single.

If you really must buy the xfactor single, you can get it from amazon for just 29p!

buy killing in the name of from somewhere else, over 40p, though ;)

I could not really tell you any number ones this year..

I buy and download a lot of music that I like.

I am really not interested in what other people like or buy.................

The Amazon '29p' sales of RATM count - there's a statement somewhere on their website (apparently they still have to pay the record company 40p or summat, so it will count) - 2 downloads last night from me!! :D

I dont think it will last, but its great to see it happen!! :)

There's nothing new here... I remember Iron Maiden's only #1 single... to make Radio1 play some Maiden they released 4 different packaged versions of the single... I have all four here 8)

It's not that I'm trying to be all anarchic, I just think it will be funny to see 'Killing In The Name Of' in number one spot for 2009.

I think that it's a minor victory in the great scheme of things.

I don't have a problem with X Factor being number 1. Most of the music I listen to has never even been on a top 100 chart, so it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

£30,000 raised for Shelter so far, and apparently Morello is going to donate some of the profits from the sale of the Rage track to music charities in the UK.

Nuff said........

But you still don't have any who can sing... ;-)

That aswell

also, isn't that other gorup (sorry, don't know the name) also ran by Simon Cowell? so either way he is still laughing, more sales than normal = more money in his pocket

Anyone hear them on 5live this morning, with Shelagh Fogerty shouting Get it off, Oh such panic

Personally I can't see why people are buying a Metal single when they wouldn't think or look twice at a band like that twice :bang:

There is also stories about the same person responsible for trying to get Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah to no.1 last year also set up this campaign (he has links to Sony)

Also as the chart rules state the single has to be registered to compete in the charts by the record company a.k.a Sony

Its all one big campaign set up by Sony which people think is people power not awesome marketing and profiteering

I dont want x-factor at number 1 but I wont be buying Killing in he name either.

Mr. Blobby anyone?

Bah humbug.

5 Live this morning was quite entertaining!

Ms Fogerty (or whatever her name is) was quite afluster (silly moo)

I think its a good idea, and actually proves that download sales are a stupid way of making up the chart. At any point in the year, there could be massive protests to get a single to number 1 and with enough downloads, its there.

When MJ Died, so many of his songs started breaking into the top 40 and stayed there for a bit too.

Gone are the days of the CD sales, when you could only really get the singles that had been released. You could now technically find a really offensive song and get it to chart with enough campaigns.

I think its a good thing that people are trying to get RATM to number one, even if it just ****es on the fact that all these crap shows just show how ficle the general public are. 19 million viewers, and how many record sales will there be?

Are you serious? Rage Against the Machine are a pretty popular band, especially back in the day.

576,000 single sales got Burke the number 1 last year and millions still watched the x-factor then.

Said before I am not buying it as its a marketing campaign by Sony, but the Christmas compilation albums will be odd next year :p

I dont care if it is a marketing campaign, at the end of the day, its less then £1 to laugh at how pathetic the x-factor lot really are!

I'd be willing to bet that 90% of the people that buy a single this week (whether it be Factor or RATM) won't even bother listening to the charts on Sunday night. Whether the song you prefer gets to number 1 or not, it's not going to stop you hearing the other one on the radio.

i posted this a while ago...

tbh who cares...
well I do...in a silly sort of way
it's not a knock against joe, or against big record industry

simply against hijacking the xmas number one for a marketing ploy.
cheeky sods. it should be slightly contended...not completely predictable.

anyway NME had a problem with this. some daft muppet wrote about....ooo the sheep are doing exactly what they tell them, to buy RATM. what a moron. and Oh so funny. sheesh. anyone who expects anarchy to work to schedule without contradicting itself...well that's not realistic.
the organised anarchy....as an oxymoron works...
I wouldn't have bought RATM to be honest (journey would have been better :)), but from a practical point of view, it's fine

bought two copies....play and amazon.
and the blokes from RATM have been quoted as saying they'll give some of the money to charity....and the parallel charity drive has £26k so far for it...so nothing to lose!
vote with your feet. watch x factor but respect original music...not reconstituted sing alongs... :)

I totally agree :p

It's not about taking a stand against the man, or telling the 'talentless' (not sure how that works, gotta be pretty talented to get far on X-Factor...) X-Factor finals to screw themselves, or creating anarchy in a completely controlled nation.

It's about getting a song to number 1 as a bit of a laugh, marketing ploy or not :p

Agreed, I just think it would be funny to see RATM at #1.

I have just read an article posted by the Daily Telegraph which is so ridiculously inconsiderate of RATM's music and supporters. I was a bit shocked to be referred to as a simpleton and a dunderheaded pseudo-protester...

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/m...st-the-machine-v-the-x-factor-tragic-isnt-it/

It's the kind of article I can only assume was written to provoke anger, as it's a load of old rubbish otherwise! :p

I love it when people call millionaire musicians "untalented" and "rubbish".

If they're so rubbish, you go make a fortune by writing, playing and selling music.
Thought not.

You don't see this sort of spew and drivel written in The Guardian - my paper of choice.

The whole "I care about real music" argument doesn't really work for me... have you heard what is number 1 for most weeks of the year? Manufactured carp is not uncommon... what is so different about the christmas number 1?

I say let the kid have his moment - I'd rather think of one young lad having a fantastic christmas than loads of bitter people who don't actually like RATM having the satisfaction of feeling smug for five minutes

EDIT - for the record, I do like RATM... so I've already got the song and don't need to buy it again.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

Bah Humbug  :D

Its not a case of beating the kid who won x-factor, its about changing the fact that x-factor dominate the Christmas number one every year!
Its the same dumb dribble that comes out every year. Its not a Christmas song, its just another over-hyped Simon Cowell product.
I feel for the kid, i really do, but i dont feel for the fat cats sat counting their cash for an excellent marketing plan (Making sure x-factor is releasing its single right before christmas EVERY year)
