Some scumbag tried to get into our house last night whilst we all slept. :bat: They managed to get the french door opened, only to find my dog stood there.
Had to sort it all out today and relook at our security around the house. The police say that they were probably after the car keys for mine and Lindas car.
The bit about Lindas car wasn't so bad, but mine!!!! Someones looking for a bashing. :bat:

dirty theiving scum, glad they didnt get anything Kev......bet you cant wait for the move eh

*******s!

I sometimes wish someone would try our house, just to be met by 2 shotguns ;)

shoot them first, then the ceiling.

"look officer... I fired a warning shot!"

What dog have you got Kev?

He's only a retriever. But he is very territorial. Got an awesome growl. Looks like I'm going to have to install cctv now.
Its just another ball ache that I could do without. It's the thought that they may come back thats worrying Linda.

Kev.

know how linda feels, I got vroken into and had awful nightmares for a few days after.

All in all beem broken into 3 times, its not nice and hate to think where I would stop if I ever caught one of them

Spike

You can buy wireless mini cctv camera kits on eBay for less than £20, or one with IR for £30-35 delivered. I bought a battery powered led spotlight in Focus today with motion sensor for £6.99, all very cheap deterrents.

Thats bad news mate, good to hear they didnt get anything. It happend to me lastyear, while me and mrs were asleep, we got broken into and our car keys taken, they managed to get away with her car, but couldnt take mine due to them not having the track card with the keys....

We got cctv fitted, but even then, that wont stp them...

Breaking and entering to get car keys is getting more and more common as cars have got harder to steal without keys.
Criminals are worthless scum.

Well they haven't come back. Yet. Found myself waking up almost every hour listening for things.
Stupid really. Just so annoyed that had Oscar not been there, things may well have been different. We didn't hear a thing. The doors are below our bedroom! Found it when we got up.
Thanks for the replies guys.

Kev.

One of my constant nightmares as we leave in the middle of nowhere.

We do have dogs in the house which are small but very vocal but would that stop them?

we had an attempted break in, a few weeks ago, luckily are front door was double locked. they havent tried again. police seem to think that they are people who take pot luck on random houses and if they cant get in they just move on. hopefully this is the same for you kev

How did they manage to open the door, Kev?

Someone I know had their Mini Cooper S stolen that way, they were seen the first time and ran away, but got in the house again and got the keys.

The way I see it if they want to break in my house, then they are not leaving it. I don't believe in the british justice system for the lenient sentences it hands out to thieves and burglars. At the end of the day, nobody is gonna come knocking at my place looking for mr burglar, because nobody knows that he was coming here, not something you brag about to your mates is it? On the plus side i need some fertilizer for my garden plants

The lock to the french doors at the back of the house was protruding about an inch or so. They put mole grips around it and must have used a slide hammer to pull it out of the door. Very clean efficient job.
Didn't hear a thing and it was the door below our bedroom. Found the door ajar when we got up. :(
Found half the lock on the lawn. I've now fitted a lock that doesn't protrude out. I hadn't even noticed that it did until this happened.
Its cost me about £350 this weekend alone, just in bits to improve the security.

Kev.

They are obviously experienced.
I have FD's too and a dog, but thinking about an alarm.

You gotta love your doggies, man's best friend after all. Glad they didn't get anything.

*******o's....

Whilst a major PITA, and an unsettling inconvienience you could do without, it appears the mutt did it's job and nothing was nicked fortunately.

As long as you're all ok that's all that matters Kev. One of my neighbours' houses was broken into a few years back and when the police were looking for evidence they found a meat cleaver that the burglar had dropped..

Sorry to hear this Kev

We don't have a dog as the mrs is allergic, however we have set one of the programs on the house alarm to only do the downstairs sensors.

That way anyone breaking in gets a right earful (we have sirens inside the house as well as outside. Very loud.....)

Wouldnt work for you as you have the dog though - would be a shame if it set the alarm off every night :lol::lol:

The police have been in touch today. It seems that there is a gang working in the area from North Yorkshire.
They have targeted a lot of houses on the north bank and south bank this weekend. The common factor is in their words 'flashy cars in the driveways'. They are convinced that it was the Range Rover that they were after and Lindas BMW was just a bonus for them.
Neither car are going to be here for a few days. The police felt that they could come back if they are stealing to order.
Thanks for all the support guys.

Kev.

we had this a couple of months ago, fortunatley i have a german sheperd that doesnt like strangers at 3 in the morning.
they got away with lumps missing from various body parts.
i love my dog.

glad to hear no one was hurt at your end including your dog, some of these sick b******s will do anything to get what they want

I would suspect the burglars were trying to nick the range rover as it's a very capable vehicle for a getaway job or to stuff stolen goods in.

Glad to hear you're okay! Never experienced a burglary that I can remember, although when I was young apparently someone tried to get in the front door with a spade - and failed  :cuckoo:

You cant beat a dog for security as the Gypsy's after scrap on my garden found out....just glad you and your family are safe

I have my car keys in my room, and i think the whole neighbourhood would hear if my car was going off in the night! Luckily too we have very nosy neighbours so any noise will not go unrecognised.

As for my dog, any strangers he'll bark a lot and then was his tail and go drop a tennis ball in front of them.

That's probably all he needs to do, wake people up. The bad guys will soon flee.

I've always fancied having a great big owl, like a European Eagle Owl or something, they are about a foot and half tall, virtually silent flyers and it's amazing how any people have a fear of flying things, oh and did I mention they have massive talons and beak.. They wouldn't know what hit them...

Not sure if they could be trained to attack though... Oh well, I'll stick with the dog for now.

Hi Kev

Sounds like the technique they used was "cylinder snapping" if it is euro cylinder you have in your french doors?? I'd recommend a cylinder called "break-secure" by Mul-T-Lock if you ever upgrade your locks in future and try to get the right sized cylinder so it protrudes as little as possible.

If you dont use it as an Entry/Exit door you could also consider mortice bolts top and bottom going into the head of the door frame and floor respectively.

Thanks for that Paul. I have upgraded it and also fitted one that does fit flush. Lots more things being done also. Not going to get caught out again.

Kev.
