Posted this over in 1 DX forum and it was suggested I post here so:

Boxing ?

Anyone here have experience of, and advice on, how to Photograph Boxers ?

I am taking pics in an amateur club, the lights low, so I'm on 3200 AI servo case 1 or case 5 with focus points set to 5 points that I'm then flicking around the action.

400th sec F2.8 but frustratingly few pics, even with my 1dx, coming out in focus.
Admittedly I've never shot Boxing before, or even much sports.

What focussing technique would people suggest I use ?

Thanks

Kipax has posted some excellent boxing shots in the Sports Photo section. He's also posted a load of advice as to how best to shoot it. Have a quick trawl!

Your shutter is miles too slow.... i did boxing SAT night... I ahve two bouts online at www.kipax.com/combat It was good lighting so I went iso 12800 .. 1000 shutter and f5 ..great :)

In low light I have started at iso 25600

seriosuly.. high iso isnt a problem wiht boxing.. get the exposure right or slightly over and it looks ok on skin with not much noticable noise..

have alook at those.. start your iso much higher and faster shutter speeds.

Ok Kipax I'll try that when I'm back again this Thursday night raising shutter to 1000th at least with 35mm lens using AI servo mode 5
(unless you have a better AI Case recommendation ?)

Q though in yr last post in 1DX forum to my Boxing Q you mentioned
.. "so i set CfnIII.10 to out 9.."

Are you referring here to C.Fn3 Drive ? whats 10 to out 9 mean ?

I alays use case 1 for everyhting...it just works :)

go into your cf menus.. cfnIII and number 10 lets you select how many focus points you want to use.. select outer 9

then when shooting you can use the thumb joystick to flick your focus poinjt left and right..

if your using too many selection points your focus point will get lost.. the 1dx isnt very well lit up and speed is the key.. so being able to easy flick left right helps massively..
