My love of mma and photography has brought me to the point of wanting to shoot some mma shows. A good friend of mine who is well known in the UK mma world and has just landed a contract from Dana White in the UFC, says he can get me cageside at a few shows (not the UFC unfortunately) to gain some experience. I'm also doing a photoshoot of him in the gym within the next week or so. I'd like some advice on both really, when doing the shoot in the gym do I use flash? If so how many and what set up. I think the biggest challenge will be at the live mma show, I know flash will be out of the question but could someone give me some tips/advice. My gear is listed below:

Canon 6d
Canon 550d
Canon 24-105L
Tamron 70-200 f2.8
3 Speedlites
1 Studio strobe
Several softboxes/brollies

I wouldnt worry about noise.. adds to the picture in these type of events.. lighting is different everywhere.. better events are vidoed so will ahve decent lights.. short lens and get up to the cage... but be protected.. you dont want to be scratching the lens on the cage... Not a big fan of over the top of the cage shots.. lower down is better... somehting like a nifty/50 is good for this.. but anything in that focul range..

Nearly all MMA events are pretty much sewn up with official photogrpahers.. certainly the decent ones I did where for a company...

tee shirt.. it gets hot.. nice polo somehting that doesnt stand out.. I tend to go for black pants and black or navy polo... your at the side of cage and people are trying to watch.. pick a spot and stick to it and dont wear bright clothes :)

As Kipax said something dark and casual.
