any batteries have died. the AE1's film advance lever seems to do nothing. The Zenits and Prakticas seem decent. opened the back of one of the Zenits to see a roll of HP5 halfway through so i'll finish it and develop to see if all is working correctly. Just the Comets seem interesting. Also a Carl Zeiss 50mm f2.8 Tessar Jena DDR lens.

The comets are fun - I used to collect them - but are impractical unless you want to roll your own film. B and I shutter, 1/50 if you got a later one.

Thanks Arthur was hoping you'd see this! Can they accept a regular canister of 24/36exp 35mm?

No they won't, even if you remove the roller - hence why I say you need to roll your own film. Do they have spools in them, if you have a couple you should be OK to re-roll some 35mm onto one in a bag and try?

Really nice to see this collection. The Zenit's have really good optics, if you search some of the sites devoted to their use you will be impressed.
The Canon AE1 is of course well worth sending away for repair, it is the 'Star' of the collection. Enjoying using the Zenit and Praktica.

Thanks Michael, yes I need to look into the AE1, hope it's a quick fix!

Hello Rick,

Here are some WEB sites that will help you gain knowledge about the Zenit E. The first one is the best, but you will have to get the computer to translate some of the pages from Russian language
www.zenitcamera.com (go to Archive to find your model)
www.ussrphoto.com
www.sovietcams.com

Hope you enjoy these pages and get some film through the Zenit E once again. Michael

where do people get these free cameras from? i need in on that action!

when you mention the film advance lever on the AE1, is it moving so far and locking or advancing all the way but theres nothing going on inside?

Good links there Michael cheers for that!

Andy The AE1's level advances all the way but nothing happens inside. Any ideas as to why? There's no battery inside so that may be a problem, but I didn't think the battery would affect the film advance mechanism..
