Have seen a pair of Bowen 400D Mono lights for sale on ebay. New to studio work. Has anyone experience of using these studio lights or can give me any information to where I might find it.
Will they work with a Canon 7D? Can I use the in camera wireless flash setting, a sync cord or a hot shoe wireless trigger? Questions, questions.
Thank you
Andrew

Can't see any reason why they will not work with your camera. I have a 200E which I first used with a sync lead and then later with a Bowens pulsar trigger/receiver. My camera is a Nikon but I can't see that making a difference. The flash units are cheap now and very reliable, unfortunately as they are old it will not be easy to get a soft box to fit them.

Thanks Geoff,
There was a bit of tumble weed there for a while. You don't think the monos' will fry the 7D electrics? Is there a safe sync lead I should use?
Do you have any knowledge of soft box fittings.

In appreciation

Don't risk it.
According to unreliable information, the trigger voltage is 170v, so you need to either use a reducing filter or a radio trigger. If you use a radio trigger, use a cheap and nasty one in case that gets damaged too.

The 400D has the old 'L' fitting. I think that you'll be very lucky to find anything that fits it.

Thankyou,
I just won't take the risk. Will purchase modern EOS friendly lights whatever the outcome on ebay with regards the 400Ds. If I win I'll honour the auction code and resell with a fuller explanatory note. Some lessons in life cost a little but pay in the long term :)

The trigger voltage is 30 - 35 volts depending on the mains supply voltage at the time, use a radio trigger or safe sync or sync protector box. these will reduce the sync voltage to 5 volts. we sell these on e bay with no problems, look in the studio and lighting section, search sync protector, regards david

Learnt a lot myself

Didn't get the 400D monolights in the end, phew. Now need to rethink and decide on a modern lighting set up.
Thanks everybody for their imput.

Andy :)

You did well to 'lose' that one:)
