Yes
I do have a nice separate hi fi system but just wondered if anyone has got rid of theirs for a bose Wave SoundTouch music system IV ?
I'm just wondering is it as good as they say it is I do have a nice record collection but often a mp3 or wave file sounds just as good and of cause is far less messing about I'm thinking this is the way to go but just not sure .

If it suits you, by all means go for it,

But....

I would advise extreme caution and careful listening before buying.

I know you can buy a Denon DM41 (no streaming) and a decent pair of speakers for a lot less than the price of the Bose, like £300-£400. I've never owned any Bose equipment so have no personal experience. I do remember someone once saying the best thing Bose do is sell the idea of Bose though.

/Edit A Denon CEOL N9 is about the same price as the DM41 with streaming.

That's pretty much it.

Thing is though, there's enough people who don't really recognise, or care about, best sound quality but are impressed by how Bose present their sound and are not particularly price sensitive.

Personally, I wouldn't give it house room but the OP can make his own mind up. I just hope he bases his decision on careful listening.

Welistened to one at Currys last weekend and to be honest the JVC we bought sounded much better, the Bose was good but we didn't think the price tag was justified after listening to them side by side

Thanks for the reply's all very interesting and why I asked here ,I have now gone off the Bose and am looking at the DM41 as a option having blue tooth and a cd player this could be all I want /need as it can replace my Amp and cd player and my little used tape deck can also go .

What is your current hifi system, Robert?

Dave

I have a Bose Wave III and love it. It also acts as my "soundbar" for the TV

Hi Dave
Denon -500 tape deck
Technics SL-PS620A cd player
Nad 3130 amp
AR turntable
Tanoy mercuty M20 speakers

its around 25 years old, One reason for change was the bose would connect to my TV via an optical cable however about 10 years ago I ran speaker cables to my dvd and iv just connected a scart out of it to hdmi cable I then put the hdmi into my new OLED LG 55" TV and now I can get the TV through the AMP and my Tanoys I really expected a lag sound sync issue but the TV seems to be sorting it out as its fine

I can play WAV files this way but not MP3 So at the moment I will see how this works out .

AR turntable

I have a pair of AR6 acoustic suspension speakers from 1974 in my upstairs "hobby" room.

I re-foamed them and replaced the capacitors.

The foam has just about loosened up now.

They are astonishingly good.

I say go with what works for you.
I ditched the one room house HIFI about 6 years ago in favour of more portable and lifestyle friendly music.
now got a few Roberts Stream 93i radios that take a USB stick with all music on, great sound from them.
Also some TIBO PLUS 3 HQ Blue Tooth speakers that are currently in the kitchen and are driven wireless from a Samsung tablet.
regardless of wether the quality is less is a moot point if your not listening to it is my philosophy.

change of direction.
Having spent the day messing about with the amp and cables it's just a big a pain moving the speakers back and forth as is turning the sound up and down through the Amp, I can see this is going to really annoy me as time moves by so iv just ordered a pair of TIBO PLUS 3 mostly for the TV but they will also play mp3's through blue ray at leased this sorts things out for now they also have a remote that appeals to me too.
Thanks for all the replies its being very helpfull

you will really like the TIBO PLUS 3s let them run in for a few hours.

Don't bother with MP3 files, even @320kbps they are far inferior to WAV or Flac files and lose so much of the detail and dynamics of the music.

just also be aware the TIBO PLUS3 support the highest version of blutooth connection 4.1
so to get the best use a source that also supports.
also just to say they have a really good line in and optical in.

On paper specs and real world use are 2 different beast. When I stream something to the Echo in the kitchen I am not expecting nor requiring the sit down in the living room listening to a record experience, so 320kbps is more than fine.

I'm old fashioned :D
I still buy cds and now listen to vinyl the sound is amazing listening with a decent hifi set up and the gear is not that expensive
I do listen to music when I'm out and about on my iPod though

used to be that way myself but wanted to spend more time listening and only way was to go HQ portable and ditch the one room solution.
Sold my meridian system for about £1k and bough an Astell and Kern AK120 Titan portable player and a few great sets of headphones and never looked back.

I think when I am wandering along the street to work with my headphones on people just assume I am connect to grubby phone music not knowing the tech and sound quality I have in my pocket. This morning it was Bruce Sprinsgtein Live in new York in SACD, just fantastic the track the River....

The TIBO PLUS 3s came today and the sound is great so very happy with them It is through Bluetooth at the moment as I cant seem to get the optical cable working So I guess I'm doing something wrong .

my optical is also a bit odd, i use blutooth tho and after 6 months they just sound better.

Optical cable now working .
you have to pick 1 or 2 on the remote I had tried this but did not give it time to kick in and receive the signal - so my fault opps
