Borrowing A 40D will My Wallet Regret It

I am quite happy with my 350D apart from Football shots especially in low light where the quality really does drop off so I have just arranged to borrow a freinds 40D tomorrow to see if the difference in quality is worth investing in,will my wallet feel much lighter once I get the shots back onto the PC
 
The 40d has a few extra features that you might like :) So you could very well find your wallet is lighter by the end of the week!!
 
I went from a 350D to a 40D some time ago; if anything will be responsible for lightening your wallet it will probably be the far nicer user interface, big screen, better autofocus and perhaps the higher frame rate.

High ISO image quality is a bit better; perhaps 2/3rds of a stop; and you've got ISO 3200 to play with too if you so desire, although the quality is usually a bit shonkey when pushing it this hard.
 
Prepare to be poorer but happier :D

Let me know the outcome Nigel....... That is exactly my intentions... Upgrading from 350d to a 40d....... but only when I can really afford it.
 
If you really want to be poorer you could borrow my 1D MkII with a view to buying.

The friend I am borrowing it off has 1DS Mk3, the 40D is her back up body, and I made the mistake of trying it out once the 1DS not her body and when I held it I wanted it,the 1DS that is but I cannot afford it ,or her for that matter.Not to say that my wife is a 350D compared to my friend who is a !DS Mk 3 but oh god their only cameras.
 
I found the 40D to be much better than the 350D when I made the switch.

I borrowed one of my friends cameras last week and yes, you suddenly get te desire to change...resist if you can but eventually you will show weakness and the wallet will be lighter!!
 
I used to have a 400D, which I was quite happy with until my dad bought a 40D. One hold of that and I knew I had to have one, it made the 400D feel like a cheap plastic toy. Within three weeks I was £550 poorer. It is a much better body though, well worth the cash.

this is quite true. once you hold the 40D you feel/notice the difference. the grip is bigger giving you a better hold and feels more solid (maybe it the Mag Alloy!) there is also a degree of weather sealing (my 1 survived the consistent spray from Niagara for a good hour). the menu sys is better, especially the ability to customize it to group together ** most used menu func.

however, 1 thing i have notice with my copy is that the LCD over saturated and the larger pixels make it harder for me to judge focusing compare to the LCD on my 400D

like everyone else i also think you are about to loose £550!!

Really interesting to hear someone say this as on paper they don't have many differences (fps, digic3, interface...). I was thinking about this exact same upgrade but had a feeling it may not be worth it. 40d or 50d it is then.
 
... just make sure you don't try a 5d by accident :) ... that would make your wallet seriously lighter.

on the upside, the d5 Mk1's are going for very reasonable prices these days (a bit more than a new 40d).

You could always try putting it on your christmas list, otherwise be prepared for a reduced bank balance in the near future :lol:

If I put it on my Christmas list I ould be lucky to get a picture of the camera let alone the camera itself - unless I put it on my 'presents to me' list :lol:
 
i took photography as a subject when i returned to study. i was all set to get a xxxd body when i had by chance a conversation with a pro. his words were to 'get the 40d instead, you won't regret it, it's a great camera'. i honestly didn't, and have been quite happy using it until recently when i was forced to use a 450d for a couple of weeks instead. to be fair, the 450 performed admirably, my only gripes being that the af sometimes didn't lock on in low light with the same lens i was using with the 40d, however this was only every 1 in 50 shots or more. i felt at times, it might slip out of my hand when holding it above my head in crowded situations, and with rapid use it felt as if it might be straining a little. these are minor points, just borrow the camera, take some time to decide if its worth it for you and you only.
