Well folks the time has come round again for the documentary that features my family, Born to be Different. The first episode is due to be screened on Thursday 9th June at 9pm on Channel 4 and then for the following two Thursdays.

The documentary follows the lives of six chidren with disabilities and their families. It charts the highs and lows of life with a disabled child, the challenges they face, and the achievments they reach.

For William (my son) he has a genetic condition called Tuberous Sclerosis. The condition means that he has multiple tumours in his Brain, kidneys and skin. He has severe uncontrolled epilepsy, ADHD, Autism, and very challenging behaviour. He is a handfull, very challenging but above all a funny little boy who makes people smile

Many thanks in advance for watching .

For those interested the older series are available to watch on the 4OD youtube pages

Thanks for letting us know about this. I have made a note of the date and time.

No worries Sue - thanks.

Worryingly we are in most of the TV magazines as pick of the day and a fair few pictures of William too.

Thanks for the "heads up" Nick, I've set it to Sky+ as I'll not be in front of a TV that evening.

Indeed, I remember the days of those large black boxes you had to put in the bigger black box to record anything

Kids today don't know there born what with Sky, HDD recording, and remote controls - I remember as a kid being the remote control for the family as the youngest!!

I also have a son (Zak) who has severe disabilities, he was born with brain damage and has Cebral Palsy and Epilepsy, he has little movement, no communication and has night time epilepsy, dispite all this Zak is a beautiful, funny child who I look up to, he never moans when people are poking at him in hospital and always has a smile. I don't think people realise what an impact children like Zak have on families and I shall be watching with interest.

Spot on Gary. I hope that things are going as well as they can. If you are interested the older series are available on the 4 on demand chanel on youtube. As I am sure you appreciate not always easy watching but hopefully it is helping to raise the profile of kids like ours.

My Virgin TVDrive box is cranked & ready to record

Many thanks Pete

ah I am out as well that night - however, sky+ can work wonders, and just to upset the non-appleites,... theres an app for that as well! Record TV from your phone!

Thanks for the headsup Nick.

I shall be watching.

Thanks for all the lovely comments folks. I now have the flyer, not the greatest quality scan but my picture none the less

It was really interesting. I am looking forward to the next episode. Your family are lovely Nick.

Thanks Sue, the next episode covers a lot more of William including his Op last November. The production company have quite a job working out how to get the right things in in the right way.

A very moving programme, well done for taking part and thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Very best wishes for the future.

I've only just managed to watch last week's program. It was very interesting & also very moving (my OH was needing tissues half way thru).

Thanks for all the comments folks. This weeks episode has a lot more of William in it including his neurosurgery from last year (there was a thread on here about it). NOt always the easiest to watch but is a very accurate representation of the turmoil we find ourselves in lurching from crisis to crisis with fun bits along the way!!

how i missed this i do not know. now sky+'d and will catch up on line. no idea what it is like for you but hats off to you

I didn't see your post prior to the program but I had already watched it....

Really moving, brought a tear to my eye. Everyone was so strong, must be difficult at times.

Thanks Colin. It is hard at times but the highs outweigh the lows and you get a real sense of achievement when they reach the smallest of milestones no matter how long it takes. There is also the fact of lurching from one crisis to another doesn't give you much time worry about things:bang::bang::bang:

Next episode tonight folks

Watching...

<tears>

my eldest son is autistic... my youngest son can relate to your daughter's fears in ways I could never say out loud here

bless William and your family, Nick

Sue - I so hope for a more stable year although I don't hold out much hope as we have just ordered an electric wheelchair for Paula as her MS has really stuffed her walking:bang::bang::bang:.

Ah I remember William from the last programme.

Off to catch up now...

Well that's it for this series. Thanks for watching and all your kind comments.
