Boris Johnson resigns ...

Anything to do with meeting Trump? :)

Hugh is right, he won't be far from the limelight. I suspect a no conf vote ousts May then a hardline brexiteer takes the PM slot giving buffoon a position in their cabinet.

Corbyn is bricking it though, real possibility of an election means he'll have to find something other than bus timetables to talk about.

I doubt it, he’ll just be offering even more for free for anyone he can think of - even more than last time.

Some of Armando Iannucci's finest work we are seeing here........what do you mean this isn't a live episode of The Thick of It....

He won't have done this without something else in mind.
He's a buffoon, but not a dumb one.

I do think Mrs May is on borrowed time.

Borrowed 2 years already and still counting. I can't believe someone like Mogg won't stand up and challenge her. They are all too soft and polite, hence nothing ever gets done.

Now that raises some interesting thoughts what may or may not happen. I am almost 100% sure the whole crisis so far is of their own making, but when Trump enters the scene I would expect a new twist just not sure exactly what it may be. He may even say "stuff it" and call it off till new government is in place. There is not long to wait now.

As I said in the May / Corbyn thread,
I always took him for a "Scarlet pimpernel" character, play the buffoon, while scheming how to be PM ....

Is anyone in our government doing a good job?

Has anyone in our government ever done a good job since Churchill?
Even though I loathed Thatcher, sending in the SAS to the Iranian embassy and the Falklands was the last time I remember them doing anything for our country rather than trying to screws us left, right and centre with their false expenses claims.

I thought his decision to resign cowardly, he signed off on the white paper, played the loyal home secretary, and then stabbed May in the back. I hope this episode, one of many in a long line of egocentric decisions, pushes him firmly into the sidelines of UK politics.

To be fair to the government I don't blame them for being s***e.
I blame the racists and non thinkers for voting leave and triggering this awful situation
This is exactly the reason we don't hold referendums to go to war as well.

.

Don't blame the Brexit voters, Cameron created this mess. Had he effectively negotiated with the 4th Reich, those who think that the EU and its' institutions are a corrupt mess might have voted differently. 52% of the population aren't all racists.

not 52% of the population, in fact less than 27% (assuming all people who voted leave which clearly isn't the case)

I'm mixed race and as a child I know what it was like to suffer from racial abuse.
Not everyone who voted out is a racist.
I also have black and asian friends who voted out and none of them have any racial hate.
Please use your brain before making pathetic sweeping statements.

My Mrs is Thai and forever on about political corruption and the like. Over there a previous government offered voters half the cost of a new car but now they're run by the military and the politicians have fled abroad. I can imagine Jeremy striding into No.10 having promised to wipe out student debt, provide free university places and give every public sector worker a double digit pay rise.

Back to Brexit, when the vote was for leave I honestly thought there'd be a good chance that it'd never happen as the majority of our ruling class are screaming remoaners who believe that anyone voting leave is a thick bigoted northerner. I still think there's a real possibility that we'll leave in name only. I do think that anywhere else in the world a ruling class which could be seen as largely deciding to frustrate a vote to leave could lead to a serious risk of real civil disorder and perhaps the rise of a more "popularist" movement. We only have to look to the USA to see what happens when a remote elite ruling class ignore large sections of the country and regard them as uneducated bigots.

Maggie was widely hated and I never voted for her but she was a strong leader and I wish we had one now. These clowns, and I include them all, Cons, Labour, Lib Dems etc. don't even realise that we're in negotiations with a body that doesn't have our best interest at heart.

Oh for God sake.

Is this drivel even worth responding to.... no...

Like you, I never voted for her but if she was PM now I bet the negotiations with the EU would be very different to the farce that is currently happening

It doesn't even bother me anymore. If voting to leave in the referendum makes me a thick racist, them I'm a thick racist. As 52% of us are thick racists it would appear that we are the norm.

Not all leave voters are racist but a lot of racists voted leave.

Revealed: Over a third of Brexit leave voters hold 'racially prejudiced' views

Brits who voted Leave in the EU referendum are more likely to describe themselves as "racially prejudiced" than those who voted Remain, according to new research.

A survey of 2,220 people found that 34% of Leave voters admitted holding racist attitudes compared to 18% of Remain voters.

The study, conducted by the National Centre for Social Research, found 26% of Britons still described themselves as "very" or "a little" prejudiced towards people of other races.

The study has been conducted annually since 1983 and the number of people saying they are racially prejudiced has never fallen below a quarter.

The figure peaked at 39% in 1987 and hit a second peak of 37% in 2011, the report Racial Prejudice In Britain Today said.

Wrong thread, wrong time and it’s been done to death.
Exactly, and these are the reasons that caused Marcel to say "they are not having another" (Brexit thread)
Any more stealth brexit moans / digs / pokes and the thread concerned may well go the way of the blatant brexit threads ...
