Hey all. My partner is currently doing her dissertation for her psychology degree, and she's a few participants shy of hitting her target with only a week left. I'm doing what I can to help her reach her target (hence posting here). If you have the time, and feel like helping out, the link is below. It's extremely appreciated.

"Dear all, I am conducting research for my dissertation, investigating people’s perceptions of Personality Disorders in an attempt to understand ways of improving future treatment outcomes. The study is an online survey looking into beliefs in response to character sketches of individuals. The study will take approximately 30-40 minutes of your time and is voluntary. The study is looking for a wide range of participants from a range of backgrounds and knowledge-bases, so you do not need any previous knowledge to take part. Your personal information will be kept confidential and will not be linked to any of the data in my final dissertation.

You do not have to agree to anything until you have read all of the information on the first page, and you are free to withdraw at any time from beginning the study until two weeks after your results have been submitted. I tried but there were a few things that weren't made clear enough for me to be able to respond accurately.

For example, how aggravated, angry or irritated I would feel by Alex would depend on whether I was his boss, a co-worker or his partner. And if I were the landlord my decision would largely be based on his ability to pay and references (although I probably wouldn't chose him as a housemate).

Simply not enough information (for someone not studying psychology at least) for me to answer, sorry :)
 
The answers are meant to be based on if you had just met the guy in a general setting, but I appreciate the fact that you tried :)

That was rather my point, in a general setting he would probably be alright, as most functioning sociopaths are.

If I had just met him I would know nothing about the patterns of behaviour, just like his boss probably knows nothing of his home life, so it is highly dependant.

I think this point is evident of the stigma that the survey is about [emoji12]

I have told my partner your views on it and she has taken note for the dissertation.

Ha ha, yes, well... :whistle:

Another way of putting it is that there isn't enough information for me to draw any conclusions in any direction. However the title is narcissist personality disorder so my views are biassed from the off anyway, which is a real issue unless it was intentional. I did spot a spelling error though :p

Good luck with the dissertation though, I remember the pain of doing mine :eek: :)

Haha I know exactly what you mean [emoji1] I'm just glad it's my partners study and not mine - it doesn't mean all too much to me! Haha.

Where was the spelling error? If it was an American spelling, it apparently had to be because the questionnaire was copied from the corrigans attribution questionnaire. (i found it odd myself)

Ah, I guess 'boats' might be an Americanism for 'boasts'? Not one I've heard before though.

I would just say it's an Americanism ;)

BTW, after what you said I completed the survey on the assumption it is a caricature and we are meant to view it as such, as opposed to a real person which is far more complicated. Hope it helps :)

Still think having the disorder listed at the top will bias results though.
