Right, i think i went mad and posted a couple of thread things tonight but hayho.

What is there for me to do in Snettisham, lets see erm there is Bingo. Yeh okay lets go around the town hall and do some bingo.....NOT!!!!! There is the town street party once a year, where is the fun in that? there is nothing to do there all it is, is for people to come and set-up a stall and start selling stuff. To me, at a town party there should be music, food and drink and that is it. Not frigging stalls!! Why do people do this, this get right up my nose.

Does anyone rekon i would make something of snettisham if i set up, say a photography club? Saying that, i've only seen one person around here with a DLSR and he was over near where the sheep are so he could have just been walking though. Oh and i see these couple of people on pedal bikes going though the village, one was on one of them things where you lay down and it has the three wheels and you pedal it, the rest was on normal road bikes. So then i was thinking how about a cycle club? I'm glad i didn't start that now

Geez, there must be something to do around here. I've even tried getting a job two villages along but had no luck with that :( I can see why really.

If i wanted to become our village photographer, what would be the best way to go about it?

I'm just thinking of so many things :@:@:@:@

Rant mode off

Sounds like you need to go out and discover the world!!! A small village with nothing to do is no place for an 18 year old guy. Go and make some friends in a big bad city, and let your hair down. At least at the weekends lol.

Gary.

If i could, i would

It is just so hard being able to pay the rent and buy food with basic income ant it? Annoying or what.

Maybe when i pass my test i can get a VW Camper van and become a hippy?    and change my name to neil :D:D:D:D:D

Mike Burrows is from Norfolk, and world famous for his Speedy/Windcheatah recumbent trike. It may have been him you saw, although there are plenty about, of similar design.

To become your village photographer, send in shots to your parish magazine if there is one. Find out how the editor wants them. With mine it's better if I take a print over, cos she manually pastes it together and sends it off for duplicating. If I email a snap, it suffers cos she prints it out and then it gets copied. Don't expect payment, but offer to sell prints. Soon peeps will expect you to be at any sort of event and will behave naturally when you're around with a cam.

Thank you very much for your advice, yeah there is a parish magazine and i know where the parish office is aswell :D

What so you just go to there office?

What you can do depends on many things, not to sound too much of a cliché!

How old are you? What formal / informal trainings have you had? What resources do you have at your disposal? How much have you worked? What does your village have (you have to see things from all angles, look outside the box).

To give you a heads’-up, but maybe of no use to you, I’ve lived in the UK for all my life – on and off – but only recently began to discover a part of UK (Wales) and I’m loving every bit of it.

When I lived in the big city (London) I never found easy access to information about walks / hiking routes (may be I wasn’t looking), about nature (other than the Botanical gardens in Kew Gardens), and even now I am struggling to find some “remote” locations to visit. Sort of “virgin” territories that has yet to be harassed by walkers / hikers and worst of all tourists.

May be your little village offers just that? May be your village has an abundance of farmers who are more than happy to host events, gathering etc.? It is only you who can say what your village may offer, source that out and come back to this community and get some feedback. A lot here are more than happy to give constructive feedback. Take the positive and dump the negative, you have to take risks to make things move (a good example of this is Stewart with LensForHire, though in all fairness I figure Stewart has a lot more experience than you do … still the underlining issue is that you have to source what you can capitalise on and make a move on that).

I am sure many, on this forum and other forums / site are more than happy to participate in your business, if it offers the very least of reward to them. A lot are happy to help out a new-start just for the sake of helping out to get you on your feet, but you have to make the first move.

I'm 18, I've basically learnt everything i know by myself, Erm by resources do you mean like there is a field we could use, erm making some backgrounds as my next project for in the garage (studio)

Is that the sort of thing you was asking?

Resources ... things in your village or close-by villages, skills you have, funds at your disposal, time, are you full time / part time student, are you a member of other groups / forums, do your parents have good social contacts?

things in your village or close-by villages

There is a shop and a town hall and that is about it

skills you have

Erm i can build websites, design things in Photoshop. I think i am quite good at art aswell.

funds at your disposal

None at the minute, but i will start getting some when i start work.

are you full time / part time student

I left collage around a year ago and have been home sitting since then really

are you a member of other groups / forums

Nope, just this one

do your parents have good social contacts?

I think so, i'm not sure

Tony

May be you want to look at building some cool web sites for various "dummy" businesses. Join as many forums as you can, and then market your skills there coupled with your photography skills?

Just a hint at where you can take your skills.... a lot of professional, semi-professional and hobbiest photographers want to have their own site (makes them look a lot more professional) but just don't have the time, or don't know where to start! Sourcing it out to a business would be too expensive, but to a start-up may be ideal?

If you can "demonstrate" that you have what it takes, you will get some business yourway .. but you have to show your potential and market yourself. You show your potential by doing a few sites for demo; you market yourself by joining forums and introduce yourself and participate there.

Again, this is just a suggestion ... may be when the sun is up others will be online to give you somemore input.

dummy businesses??

What do you mean?

I'll start seeing if i can pay for a host soon ;)

E.g. fashion store, photograph studio .... do sites for "not real" businesses that you just make-up youself to demonstrate your abilities and skills (prototype, if you will).

Investigate what real businesses have for their web-sites and do something more creative, easier to navigate, more personal!!

Ah i thought you meant like fake a business to make money from it, like say i was selling things and like when someone buys one just take the money and delet the account tut tut lol

Do that and the only job you will end up doing is the laundry at the local HM Prison!! :)

Gary.

:agree:

It may be too late in the night for me to type coherently, or for both of us to discuss this further! I hope you get the "essense" that you can do a lot, but you have to believe in yourself and aim for what you're good at while marketing yourself.

Of course, in between all that, you do need to go out and socialise and let your hair down - as has already been told to you - so that you can refresh your battiries.

I hope others will be able to give you more insight as to what you can capitalise on, as it seems my batteries are running low for the night.

u see.... gary's been there done that :P garys done a bit of bird :P

Tony - If you want to set up a camera/photography club in your village, then do it - you may be surprised about how much interest there is. Print a few flyers/posters and ask if you could post them in the local shop/pub/community centre etc. Ask your parents if the first meeting can be at home, and see what happens.

There are thousands of people out there with digital cameras who would love to take it a little bit further than the "program" setting. It does not matter what make or type of camera they have - great images can be taken with (almost) any camera.

If you don't think this could happen in deepest Norfolk, think again: A club has recently started up in Bunwell (pop. 885 according to the net), by the second meeting we had 17 people already! All of different ability, all different ages - a great way to meet new people. Snettisham is much larger than Bunwell, and the potential for landscape and nature photography is fantastic in your area, so why not give it a go?

Yeah that sounds pretty good, I might get some banner things designed :)

Thanks for the advice
