Hi,

Is there any good software or PS plug-ins that will add a border to images?

SB

There are software packages and plugins - but it's so easy to do..

Just go to Increase Canvas size. If the original image is say 800 X 400 specify a new canvas size of 802 X 402. Make sure the bg colour is set to black. (you can set it at any colour you like ) this will give you a one-pixel black line all around the image - you can have a wider border if you specify more pixels.

Clickity Click

This was the best £5 I spent. Does border in seconds and is very customisable. Highly recommended. :)

Why would you want a border within the image?

Got a link to an example of what you have in mind?

(CS3)
create background copy ( it wont work on the background)
Bottom click "Fx" Click "stroke"from the window click "inside" this gives you a whole bunch of options from size of border colour blend mode, opacity in fact all sorts of goodies just play!

CT,

Like a thin/fine white border about 2mm inside the image.

Thanks Cobra.

You mean something like so?

Shrimper... there is a CS3 version as well. Just follow the link at the top of that page i sent and it takes you to the index. Then select CS3 :)

No, thats still a border outside.

Imagine this but without the blur in the border, so you just have a black/white line square inside the image, with photo either side of the line.

Since thats not actually what the image above is, I cant explain how you achieve what you want - I don't know for sure.

The longwinded method I used was to select all - stroke selection, cut, paste new layer twice, increase the size of the middle layer a tiny bit and then fill it with black.
Horrendous, I know :p I should really find out the right way....

If the original image is say 800 X 400 specify a new canvas size of 802 X 402.
Even easier, if you check the 'Relative' box then you only need to specify additional border size (2x2 for a 1 pixel border).

This means you can add it to an action that can be applied to an image of any size.

The only way I can think of to draw the black line inside the image like that is to use the straight line drawing tool. Specify the colour of the line and the thickness in pixels.

You'll have to be very accurate to get straight lines and clean corners. Enabling the image grid should help with accuracy.

For a black border inside an imagine can you not just use the Rectangle tool? create a rectangle with black outline and no fill? I think you could probably even action it so its drawn at say 5 pixels in/down to image width/height - 5 (If that makes sense).

Yep - that would probably work. As always, there's undoubtedly loads of ways to do it.

This is one thing that PSP does much better than PS simply because it will let you contract the selection after you've done a Select All so do the the blurred edge with a pixel line you could do the following:

Select All
Contract Selection
Invert Selection
Blur
Invert Selection
Select Selection Border (to create the line)
Set background pen to black and hit delete

Job done

Hmmm just thought of a way in PS.

Layer from Background
Duplicate the layer
Increase the canvas size
Use transform to increase the size of the bottom layer back to full size and then blur it a bit to look like the example.
Switch to the top layer and Layer > Layer Style > Stroke

"Select Selection Border (to create the line)"
So how is that done in PS :D I have found a very easy way to select inside the image, but I dont know how to make a line along the selection.

(Select all, transform selection, use the W/H in the toolbar and make sure its set to px, just shrink the size by x pixels on both)
