Yes
I have always put black borders around my images that I put on flickr to give them a bit more impact.

I am now wondering if they look better with out without borders, I think I'm just having an indecision crisis! :D

Anyway I just thought I'd ask what everyone else feels about borders. Do you like them or not?

Yes for me, I always have my Exif border on my images that I post here as it stops the what setting did you use, as when saving for web they get stipped

If I'm printing stuff with I tend to have the image smaller than the mount aperture to allow for a title and limited number etc to be added, if I'm doing this I leave a 2px black line. For web etc I don't bother.

I went with 'depends'. Sometimes a very slim, maybe only 5 pixels white or black border is necessary to separate the image from the background. Other than that I don't like them anymore. I used to have the white border with the shadow thing going on. But I just think they look silly now.

Dave are you aware that it's easier just to 'Save As ...' instead of going through the process of putting borders on?

Also, have you viewed one of your images on the forums, with the forum style set to black? They only have 2 sides to the borders. I've been meaning to ask you for a while.

Another for depends here - I occasionally put a black pinstripe border on my black and white photo's submitted here, mainly to stop the image "bleeding out" into the background - usually on clouds etc. I don't normally bother with a border, however, as with only 800px width to play with, I prefer to use as much as I can for picture, rather than frame.

I selected depends too. For printing, never used a border. For my website/portfolio yes. For Flickr, no. Also depends on if the page the image is viewed on has a white background. I prefer a white border over a black border. I always put a signature on every image now though. Can't be bothered to go back to older ones to stamp them :-)

I used to be mad keen on rebate printing when I used to shoot film but these days, seeing as very little of what I shoot is actually for personal show (the majority is for work) I don't have any need for borders.

I went with 'depends' also because some shots benefit from a border, others don't....

I never really liked them, in the past
but with so many appearing, I am slowly getting used to them,
and now really don't mind either way
as long as they are "subtle" that is.
As said I think that in some cases they help to separate the image
from the "background"
