Yes
I was in Borders today and they had their 20% Christmas Sale banners up, but as I was leaving they were being replaced by "Closing Down Sale - Up to 50% off" ones.....

What borders?

Might nip in tomorrow and try and get some books for college

All of them I think mcneep - heard the other day they were about to go under :(

Might go and purchase that Leonna Lewis photo book for a present.Wasnt paying £40 for the b****r.
Although that wont be down... In my luck.

Shame though as I like Borders for all my magazines.

Never heard of them! What do/did they do then?

Might pop in Monday on the way to work , doubt there will be much left worth having, can't be bothered to go into town today.

Gave up on Borders after they tried to rip me off with an imported book from the US. Quoted me twelve quid and when it arrived tried to say it was twenty three due to the fluctuating exchange rate.

Know it dropped a bit, but not that much

I used to pop into the branch at the Manchester Fort in Cheetham Hill now and again as it's quite a large shop with a good selection of books. A reasonably good range of DVD's too, albeit some titles being very overpriced. I'll have to see what's available at sale prices.

I wondered how come I managed to pick up a couple of Joe Cornish books a few weeks ago for 1/2 price! b****r, I'm gonna miss borders... how else will I be able to browse a book before buying cheaper on Amazon. :(

Bummer, i liked that shop. I've only been in the one in Brighton. Whats good about that is they've got a starbucks on top, used to buy a coffee and then go read a book.

Though thanks for that, i want to get the new Richard Dawkings book.

Only doing the big sale at the stores that are closing because the lease has run out or is about to

Believe its six of them, google Borders sale for more info

Another victim of the internets success I'm afraid. Customers just aren't willing to pay 20%+ for the same item they can get online cheaper, and the stores cannot afford to lower their prices due to the costs of having a real store.

What I predict in the long term (10-15 years) is that shopfront rent will come down, as there will be less and less stores willing to have real shopfronts. Whether they'll come down enough in that time to allow shops to run a profit from the storefront is another matter.

Been into Borders today and they are only doing 20% off unfortunately. Still, better than a poke in the eye with a very sharp stick!!

I went into te Leeds store today and as Sara said they are only offering 20% off photography books. Some other books have 50% off but the majority have 20%.

However, OS maps are 50% off - so if you need a map, buy it now.

I liked the fact that I could read all the photo mags (or even a book) for the price of a Starbucks' Grande latte, which on second thoughts is probably why Borders are going bust

I always wondered how Borders stayed in business. Always enjoyed going for a browse and they do the best range of photography magazines but their books are always full price. Even other high street chains like Smiths and Waterstones were much cheaper so I'm not sure the internet is entirely to blame on this occasion.

I get both my photography mags from there even though it's more expensive (have to pay for parking) because like any other business if you don't use it you lose it. I'll be sad to see it go.

But I have to say their photography books section was truly awful. Take The Hotshoe Diaries, one of the biggest sellers this year and they didn't bother stocking it?

Whoever bought their books needed some education on what to stock.

Funnily enough I spotted a copy in the Buchanan St branch on Saturday, first time I've seen it in any bookshop...

Hopefully its still there tommorrow when I go in..
We shall see.
Although they cut the photo section down drastically recently.

I'm pretty sure I spotted it in the Stockport branch, I was hesitating whether to buy it or not! (It may have been his other book though..)
