Week 6 - Alley / Alleyways

So, if you have come here looking at the image for Alley and thinking "What is Boots on?", welcome, and let me explain.

I was a bit stuck for anything original for the theme, so turned to my trusty Collins dictionary. Alley n. A large playing marble. Bingo!

Week 7 - Heavy

Another catch-up that might have you scratching your head. Our Scottish friends call a strong ale "A pint of heavy".

Two nice shots. I have heard of both alley and a pint of heavy. Will it be a light beer this week?
Colours are soothing in the heavy shot.

Nice one.

I tried two parallel rows of marbles to make an "Alleyway of Alleys". However, my images looked absolute rubbish.
 
Wow, your "Alley" post takes me back. We did call our marbles alleys sometimes but referred to the bigger ones as "Cobs", we also had half-cobs and king-cobs (depending on size). The clear ones we called "crystals". Great choice for the theme.

Love your heavy shot. If I'm going to have a beer, that's the type of beer I'd be looking for!
 
Ah a pint of heavy..... Nice shot, with the blue vase adding some further padding to the shot.

I was thinking of doing the same , We always called marbles alleys when we were kids, used to have 100's of them
 
Thanks for the explanation of "alley" WRT the marbles. My (tiny little) mind was convinced that they were miniature bowls with the big one being the "Jack"!

Week 8 - Light

I feel an explanation is required (never a good sign).

This is an extreme crop of a close up of a swan's feather. I liked the swooping shape of the errant barbs and the hairlike structures (which I have just learnt are called barbules).

It probably doesn't need to be said that the point of the image was "light as a feather".

That's a good shot.
Light as a feather or even lighter, part of a feather.

Alley - I was initially confused but your explanation makes sense and the image looks good.

Heavy - Being from north of the border I immediately made the connection with the pint, I might have moved the vase for separation of the two elements.

Light - Really pleasing composition which has an airy feel to it

Great take on the theme Paul, a really good macro shot.
 
A very detailed image Paul, who knew how intricate a swans feather is. They don't let you get close enough to see them.

Yes, the hardest part of the shot was holding the swan still ;).

It needed no explanation for me as I was also going to do a close up of a feather. In the end I opted for one further away. I had wanted to shine a coloured light through it, but I was worried about my sensor... I also didn't have enough hands (they are very tricky these swans aren't they? :LOL: )

You have executed this really well. You have really caught all the detail and the delicacy of it.
