Hey, anybody got some good book recommendations for a beginner just starting out, something that covers dslr basics, exposure composition and all that type of stuff...I know it's prob like asking what camera to buy (as everybody has thier preferences) but if anybody has any suggestions would be much appreciated

I would suggest Henry Carroll's 'Read This If You Want to Take Great Photographs':
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00KS1QM0S/

and its companion volumes on People (especially good) and Places:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Read-This-Great-Photographs-People/dp/1780676247
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Read-This-Great-Photographs-Places/dp/178067905X

They are short, accessible, nicely produced and illustrated with well-chosen pictures from major photographers. The essential tech stuff is there, but the emphasis is more on thinking about the composition.

TBH, I would just research the exposure triangle, and then play around around to try and and understand the effects that ISO/EXP/Shutter speed have on images. Once you have your head round that, the world is your lobster.......

C heck with your Local College for Evening Classes, Hands on experience beats any book any day of the week.

Without hesitation I would recommend Tony Northrups book (I'm currently reading his E-Book).

Each chapter is well written and explained for a complete beginner. There are HOURS of video tutorials. There's even some projects at the end of each section to see if you've taken on board what you're learning.

I know I'll be referring back to this book for a long long time.

If you get the E-Book you get updates forever too :)

cheers for all the suggestions, might take a trip to the local library(not been in one of those for a while) and see what they have
