Book suggestion needed

My niece would like get know a bit about photography, and so far has decided that her fathers compact camera is not good enough for her. :lol: We're going to give her a lend of my old D50 kit to get her started, but what we wondered was, is there a fairly basic photo/camera book suitable for a 14 year old complete novice? I'm thinking that the likes of Understand Exposure is going to be a bit heavy going for her

The bit I found useful is when he says "get your camera, do this, it will change like this"...... and it obviously did! :lol:

It helped me actually "doing it" rather than just reading about what it should do.
