I'd like to improve my skills in Photoshop, so thinking about picking up a book or two, rather than buying mags every month with tutorials that I don't need.

I'm not new to the program. I've been using it for a good few years now, but 99% self taught, so there's a lot I'm missing out on, I'm pretty sure.

Currently using CS3 and I'd like to learn general post processing as well as a few more artistic tricks. I'm often drawn to a darker side of photography...I'll take the odd pretty landscape, but it always generates more interest for me if there's something more sinister about it. So anything that airs on that side is a bonus, though I wouldn't say I have any particular genre.

Any recommendations?

Try the "Ultimate Photoshop workshop". There are two versions one for CS4 and another for CS5

If your familiar with PS then 'How to cheat in photoshop' is pretty good. It covers most things to do with photoshop montages and gets to the point quickly. Its got everything from changing someones cloths to blowing stuff up.

I've also just purchased 'Adobe photoshop cs5 for photographers, the ultimate workshop.' Like the title suggest its aimed with photography in mind and although I havn't started the book yet i'm expecting by the end of it to be able to make all my dull, boring photographs pop into life:lol:

There is also some damn good tuts online to - PSDvault is a pretty good place for follow along tutorials if you don't already know it.

Hope this helps

Cheers guys, I'll check them out.

I should add that I get bored easily. So much prefer light-hearted explanations, you know, sometimes with a bit of humour rather than long drawn out and in depth explanations.

Cheers Muttley. I've came across that site before, and yes, it's very good.

Funny thing is, even though I work on the internet, get home and waste my time on the internet....I often find it a real chore reading from a computer screen. It's a nice change to have a book instead.
