Book / Christmas present / Coffee table read - suggestions?

Looking to get a friend a book for her christmas present - saw this book by Rankin and thought it looked nice, but there must be loads of this type out there...just wondering what people recommend? She's into the photography (obviously!) and studying 'cinema and photography' at Uni.

Also if theres any other tutorial books that would make good presents (I've already bought her Understanding Exposure and Scott Kelby vol. 1) then those suggestions would be appreciated!
 
There's hundreds to choose from, it really depends what she likes. Almost every famous photographer will have produced one or more coffee table style books. Taschen publish a decent range of small photography books.

Difficult to suggest a tutorial book unless you know a particular subject she's interested in learning.
 
I know there's hundreds to choose from - that's why I'm asking for suggestions!! I want the really good ones - the 'Understanding Exposure' of the coffee table books if you get me!

Does she like portraits? landscapes? cute fluffy kittens?

You picked out Rankin as an example, does she like Rankin?

It's such a wide range of choices, and you're not giving much to work on in terms of what she likes or is interested in? WHich photographers inspire her? Who has she bought herself books about? What is she currently reading? What's her favourite film or favourite director?


If you wanted another technique style book I can recommend The Photographer's Eye by Michael Freeman. Moving away from books, there is a dvd available of The Genius of Photography that I would also recommend.
 
I started reading Annie Libovitz's book. I was really enjoying it but you know... depends what and who your friend likes.
