Does anyone use or have used the Bob Rigby Proclamp?

I know it's a lot of money but when you are placing 10k worth of gear on it you want it to be of good quality and sturdy.

I already have the Gitzo centre column so hight adjustment isn't a problem.

I often use a monopod or a beanbag but I want the freedom of being able not having to hold it while waiting for something to happen especially in the winter months when I want to pour myself a hot cuppa.

It's for use with my 500mm mkii and wimberly gimbal head.

Is that "monopod adaptor" for £125 not just a £20 ARRI superclamp and a bit of metal with a hole in it?

Personally I'd buy an ARRI superclamp and a stud for your camera baseplate for £30. Can even mount a tripod head or magic arm if wanted.

They're designed for holding lights or cameras and should easily carry a DSLR and lens.

PS if clamping above head height, I always use a dyneema or steel tether to a separate Superclamp, eyebolt or similar.

Sorry, I really don't get what you mean.

This is to use in a bird hide so it won't need to go above head hight and the is no way I'm going to attach my camera by the camera base plate with the weight of a 500mm prime hanging off the front.

Yoiks! That is as more than I paid for my GT4542LS new! The screw on the clamp looks a wee bit small for my tastes too.

It is certainly a great idea (I do quite a bit of hide shooting) but it is hopelessly overpriced in my opinion.

An ARRI superclamp has a safe working load of 15kg.

The Superclamp has a range of fittings, one of which is a "camera stud" which has 1/4" and 3/8" threads, so you can attach a tripod head or similar to the clamp.

Right, gotcha.

Thank you,the images helped.

Problem is that the shelves in hides can vary quite a bit and can be very think and I don't think that clamp will open up wide enough.

It's food for thought though.

Cheers.

If I was interested in such a clamp I would be inclined to look amongst my wood work tools for suitable clamps and materials. Any self respecting C clamp has clamping pressures quite sufficient to indent itself into an oak plank. and far more than necessary to hold a camera and lens in place on a ledge. Knocking up a suitable mount to hold a gimbal would be easy.

Dad drilled and tapped a large "G" clamp to accept a 1/4" UNC stud for this sort of thing. As Terry says, plenty of clamping force and would fit on any shelf as long as there was clearance underneath it.
