Board Games. How do you play them?

Are the days of traditional boxed board games on the way out. Over Christmas we've been playing Scrabble, Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit. All on our iPods.
Do you think the tablet versions of these classics are replacing the traditional versions?

It's such a massive shame !

I won't play on my phone, I don't feel it's as good as the board game, too controlled and you can't make your own rules !
 
Board games not played on a board should surely simply be referred to as games?
We still play these games the way they were initially designed to be played.
 
Board games should be left in the cupboard where they belong. Their time has been and gone!
 
They should be called bored games. That's how I feel as soon as I started playing them. I don't play them anymore and never will again.
 
My family went retro this year and played charades at Christmas, so am not sure they're ready for board games on a tablet
 
did some retro gaming this xmas with clued, sort it out, hungry hippos and charades, and the kids have 20+ various board games that they regularly play.

but in general I play Risk, Monopoly, Scrabble, Catan, Boggle & Battleships on iPad.. me and the wife even play Scrabble in local multiplayer mode on the iPad and use our iPhones as the tile holder, it works really well.
 
I emptied a bag of maltesers on a couple of colleagues desk at work and suggested they play hungry hippos fortunately they have a sende of humour.I like game of yahtzee with a few jd's
 
Santa left our son Ludo and Snakes and Ladders in board form.

The snakes and ladders is a complete nuisance and the Ludo i got used to after reading instructions about 10 times.
 
My kids and I often play Monoply and Scrabble in the traditional way, we love it, and it saves me dosh sometimes by not having to spend money on other things to keep them occupied on school holidays.
 
Cranium is great and I cant see it working as an electronic game.

We got the pointless board game for christmas, although we have discovered that the board is indeed pointless!
 
I've just taught my 7 year old daughter to play Monopoly over Christmas and she loves it.

The interaction of sitting round the table and playing is a delight for her, like everything else. Second time out she beat us all pretty comprehensibly too!

The original board games are great for kids I think and certainly have a role to play today.
 
I quite like playing board games still, think it brings the family together more than if you play on a computer. Don't get me wrong though, I do a fair bit of gaming on the PC and phone as well...
 
I play to win!

Nearly caused a row between my wife and I during a game of Monopoly with friends...... when I was a kid, if you landed on someone's property but the owner didn't realise it and the die were thrown you got away with not paying rent.

Apparently that's "dishonest" and made her question what else I would be dishonest about :lol:

End result was I ended up owning 3 sides of the board and winning comprehensively :lol: :1st:

We haven't played since (this happened back in June).

In that case, Never play Mr and Mrs!!!!

Friends bought us a copy last year as a novelty, and we played it at New Year with them, within about 5 mins they were arguing about, of all things, the number of Pastries consumed by each of them in the average week :lol:



we still have board games and although not played often, will be making an appearance again tonight.
 
We like rummikub and card games mostly - especially when the stakes are high :lol:
 
Monopoly using the board and paper money, we had the Visa version but it was just wrong. The last time we played scrabble was using iPad and 2 iPhones which was just weird but solved the problem of the few missing letters that the cat sent flying under the sofa.
 
I used to play backgammon online but got fed up with people just quitting when they were being thrashed! The online version also loses the rattle and clack of the dice and stones.
 
Any electronic version of chess cannot beat a quality board with wooden pieces :)
 
Electronic can't but a good old ebony and ivory set feels even nicer than most mass produced wood sets!
